About The Position

Newton-Wellesley Hospital, a member of Mass General Brigham, is seeking a Full Time (40 Hour) Nocturnist Physician Assistant to join their Hospitalist team. This role involves providing high-quality, efficient care for patients on the Hospitalist Service and Short Stay Unit. The PA will support physicians, collaborate with consultants, nurses, case managers, and other healthcare providers. The position is based at Newton-Wellesley Hospital's main campus and involves 13-hour overnight shifts, with a requirement to work every third weekend and participate in a rotating holiday schedule.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree Physician Assistant required
  • Physician Assistant [State License] required
  • 2 years of experience as a PA required

Nice To Haves

  • Inpatient medicine experience as a PA preferred
  • Epic experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Caring for patients on the Short Stay Unit and the inpatient med/surg floors
  • Completing initial patient evaluations, inclusive of obtaining a history, completing medication reconciliation, performing an exam, reviewing diagnostic testing, and documenting an H&P as well as entry of admission orders
  • Monitoring patient progress and coordinating treatment plans with supervising attending, consultants, and providers in other disciplines
  • Documenting subsequent encounters through completion of progress notes
  • Performing procedures in accordance with clinical privileges
  • Discharging the patient from the hospital, including performing discharge medication reconciliation and coordinating discharge care plan
  • Providing education to patients and family members regarding their illness, medications, nutrition, diagnostic tests, procedures, care plan, and post-discharge care
  • Triaging patients from NWH ED as well from outside hospitals
  • Collaborating with nurses, hospitalists, and other providers to accept patients from NWH ED, outside hospital EDs, and outpatient clinics
  • Communicating with accepting providers to ensure a smooth transition
  • Cross-covering non-house staff and Short Stay Unit patients during evening hours
  • Participating in Short Stay Unit, hospital medicine and hospital-wide process improvement, quality and safety projects
  • Assisting in quality assurance, quality and process improvement and patient safety initiatives within the Hospital
  • Assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation
  • May also perform additional duties, such as precepting a small group of learners
