About The Position

As a NOC Engineer I, you will play a pivotal role in providing foundational support for monitoring and managing Segra’s core, distribution, carrier last mile, and customer premise voice and data services. This position is an entry level engineer role and is focused on developing your technical skills and providing a comprehensive understanding of network operations from an engineering perspective. Your responsibilities include assisting with routine network surveillance, basic system troubleshooting, and documenting incidents and their resolutions. You will work closely with higher level engineers to escalate issues beyond your scope, learning to prioritize tasks in a dynamic 24x7 network operations center environment. Additionally, you will engage in training sessions to enhance your knowledge of deployed technologies and contribute to maintaining operational documentation. This role provides a pivotal starting point for a strong foundation for growing your expertise in network operations and prepares you for more complex tasks and responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in networking, such as support, engineering, or similar
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience working in a networking or Telecommunications environment
  • Demonstrate proficiency with Carrier transport circuit technologies such as Ethernet over Copper (EOC/EFM), ADSL, T1s, fiber services (DWDM), and Metro-Ethernet
  • Demonstrate proficiency with Network infrastructure, DNS, IP Subnetting
  • Demonstrate proficiency with Dynamic Routing Protocols (BGP, OSPF, RIP and EIGRP)
  • Demonstrate proficiency with Telephony based technologies (TDM, Converged, VOIP, SIP, etc.)

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or Bachelor Degree preferred but not required
  • Vendor certifications preferred but not required (BTI, Cisco, Ciena, AdTran, Alcatel-Lucent, Fortinet, VeloCloud, etc.)
  • Experience/training on voice and data communication networks and the individual elements within those networks, data/wireless communications principles
  • Ability to resolve network and customer-initiated incidents quickly and effectively while communicating in an empathetic manner with our customers
  • Self-awareness and willingness to escalate issues and follow up to ensure incident resolution
  • An analytical mindset that appreciates solving problems
  • Good computer and written/verbal communications skills
  • Possess the ability to take on new, demanding challenges
  • Demonstrate the ability to assume new levels of responsibility
