About The Position

The New Mexico Department of Agriculture (NMDA) is seeking an Agriculture Specialist Intermediate to join their Pesticide Management Bureau in Las Cruces. This role is crucial for managing and implementing the department's pesticide licensing, compliance, outreach, and investigation programs. The position involves significant outreach efforts, including managing pesticide-related continuing education programs, reviewing online educational resources, delivering presentations on pesticide applications and regulatory updates, evaluating conference agendas for continuing education credits, and developing webpage content. The specialist will act as a primary point of contact for licensed pesticide applicators, continuing education course sponsors, and the department. This is a full-time, exempt position.

Requirements

Associate's Degree + 4 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree + 2 years of relevant experience.
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience as approved by Human Resource Services.
A valid driver’s license is required.
Ability to drive for extended periods (e.g., 5-6 hours).
Possess or within one year obtain Environmental Protection Agency credentials through training and applied experiences.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders and colleagues regarding pesticide regulations.
Experience in technical writing.
Commercial pesticide applications.
An academic and applied background in one or more of the following: agronomy, entomology, weed management, structural pest control, or pesticide toxicology.

Responsibilities

Solely responsible for, and/or working in collaboration with peers, in the management and implementation of the department’s pesticide licensing, compliance, outreach, and investigation programs.
Primary responsibilities for department outreach efforts directed at managing pesticide-related continuing education programs.
Review of online resources for educational relevancy.
Deliver presentations related to licensed pesticide applications and regulatory updates.
Review of conference agendas for continuing education credits.
Development of webpage content and updates.
Participation in conference planning.
Serve as a primary point of contact among licensed pesticide applicators, continuing education course sponsors, and the department.
Perform other essential job-related duties as assigned.
