The NJ Statewide Student Support Services (NJ4S) network includes 15 regional hubs to support statewide delivery of prevention services in schools, as well as other locations in the community including but not limited to: libraries, community centers, faith-based organizations, and family success centers. Hubs receive requests for an array of prevention and early intervention services from the school districts assigned to the Hub. Services are divided into three Tier categories. Tier 1 includes a universal prevention program that benefits all students. Tier 2 includes evidence-based prevention interventions typically delivered through small groups. Tier 3 includes assessment and brief individual clinical interventions to youth in distress. Tiered services are primarily focused on substance use prevention, sexual health and pregnancy prevention, suicide prevention, anti-bullying, and violence prevention, and/or other prevention-focused areas of need determined by a Hub Advisory Group comprised of youth and community members where the NJ4S Hub is located. Hubs deploy staff to schools and, with guidance from their Hub Advisory Group to other youth-friendly spaces in the community (spokes). Hub Advisory Groups, comprised of youth and community members where the NJ4S Hub is located, determine needs for tiered services. The Hub Director provides overall leadership and accountability for the NJ4S Hub. The Director is responsible for initiating, building, and sustaining strategic relationships with school districts, administrators, and community partners to ensure access to NJ4S services and foster collaborative partnerships that support student well-being. The Director is responsible for establishing strategy, leading community-based needs assessment efforts, ensuring alignment with NJ4S expectations, and making final decisions regarding the selection and refinement of evidence-based programs. The Director ensures that programs complement existing community services, use data responsibly, and are delivered with fidelity and sustainability. The Director oversees the Advisory Group recruitment strategy and co-facilitates Advisory Group meetings to support inclusive, data-informed decision-making.
