About The Position

Rite of Passage is hiring a Night Youth Mentor at Lava Heights Academy in Toquerville, Utah. Lava Heights Academy is a residential treatment program for vulnerable young women referred by juvenile courts and social service agencies. The program provides a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for youth who may have histories of abuse, neglect, trauma, substance abuse, mental illness, and violence.

The Youth Mentor provides safety and around-the-clock supervision for youth and helps maintain an atmosphere that supports students’ needs. The role includes monitoring and documenting student behavior and activities, participating in and assisting with educational, social, athletic, and recreational activities, and collaborating with professional staff to establish or meet each student’s treatment-plan goals.

The schedule is a 12-hour overnight shift, 9:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m., with a one-hour break. The posting describes alternating weekly schedules, though the second week’s schedule is incomplete. Pay is $20.00 per hour, depending on experience and education.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 21 years old.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check, drug screening, physical, and TB screening.

Responsibilities

• Provide safety and around-the-clock supervision for youth in the program.
• Maintain an atmosphere that is supportive of students’ needs.
• Monitor and document student behaviors and activities.
• Participate in and assist with educational, social, athletic, and recreational activities.
• Collaborate with other professional staff to establish and/or meet each student’s treatment-plan goals.
