About The Position

Southern Cross is seeking a full-time Night Shift AMLD Driver in the Pittsburgh, PA area to support its Advanced Mobile Leak Detection (AMLD) program. This role involves surveying natural gas pipeline systems using specialized vehicle-based technology. The ideal candidate is a dependable driver who can work primarily third shift, travel extensively based on business needs, and operate safely and independently while following assigned routes, procedures, and client requirements. The position demands a high level of flexibility, as drivers may be reassigned to different projects with little notice and must be available for emergency driving assignments outside of their normal schedule, including nights, weekends, and other non-standard hours. Drivers should be comfortable using technology such as cell phones, tablets, and laptops, including navigating multiple applications, and must be willing to learn routine troubleshooting procedures. The typical schedule is 10-hour night shifts, Sunday evening through Thursday morning, generally around 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM. A clean DMV driving record is required, and company vehicles are equipped with telematics. Training is paid and typically lasts approximately one week.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean motor vehicle record
  • Ability to work third shift / overnight hours consistently
  • Proven ability to drive safely for extended periods
  • Comfort working independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable with extensive travel and schedule changes
  • Able to quickly adapt to changing project needs and assignments
  • Basic computer and technology proficiency for data entry, communication, and field applications
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and perform physical job duties as required
  • Ability to sit and drive for up to 10 hours per shift, with two 15-minute breaks and one 30-minute meal period
  • Ability to walk 3–5 miles per day, bend, crouch, kneel frequently, and carry a minimum of 20 pounds of equipment
  • Comfortable using small hand tools such as wrenches and screwdrivers, along with basic diagnostic tools such as multimeters
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Available for overtime as needed, including weekends
  • Comfortable using computers and technology in the field
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating larger vehicles is preferred
  • Prior field service, utility, inspection, or related industry experience is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Drive and operate AMLD survey vehicles safely and efficiently during overnight shifts
  • Travel as needed based on assignment and project demands, including overnight travel and occasional weekend mobilization or demobilization
  • Demonstrate flexibility to be reassigned to different projects, routes, or service areas with little advance notice
  • Perform basic vehicle and equipment troubleshooting, including routine checks and resolving common technology or application issues
  • Maintain safe driving performance in a variety of road and weather conditions, including rain, fog, and winter conditions where applicable
  • Follow all company and client safety policies, procedures, quality standards, and documentation requirements
  • Maintain accurate records of driving activity, project work, and any required field documentation
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members, providing updates on progress and any issues in the field
  • Represent Southern Cross professionally and ethically in all interactions with clients, partners, and the public
  • Perform other duties as assigned
