About The Position

L’Arche Homefires is seeking an energetic and compassionate individual who is willing to work alongside individuals with and without developmental disabilities. Requirements

  • Valid CPR and Standard First Aid (2-Day) certification.
  • Valid NS Driver’s Abstract.
  • Access to a reliable and safe vehicle, including 2 million in insurance.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely push, pull, and lift up to 35 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of L’Arche history, core values, and mission or a willingness to engage.
  • Post-secondary education or experience in human services, disability support, or similar.
  • Ability to effectively articulate thoughts and ideas in a team setting.
  • Ability to provide clear documentation.
  • Ability to support the daily functions of a shared living space in a home environment, completing any nighttime duties as required by the House Leader and Day assistants.
  • Proficient in computer use, Microsoft 365, online learning platforms and digital documentation processes, with the ability to learn and effectively use additional platforms as required by L’Arche Homefires.
  • Ability to be flexible and manage multi-faceted responsibilities in a changing environment.
  • Ability to remain calm, focused, and clear in times of crisis.
  • Demonstrates initiative, follows direction, and consistently follows through on commitments.
  • Open to learn and grow; able to give and receive feedback and address conflict respectfully.
  • Committed to lifelong learning, professional and personal development.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an awake and alert presence in the home overnight.
  • Perform light-medium housekeeping duties.
  • Provide personal care.
  • Be attentive to the health and wellness of the core members.
  • Provide positive behavior support.
  • Maintain good communication and documentation with the team.
  • Document thorough pass-on in accordance with L’Arche Homefires guidelines.
  • Work with the House team to build relationships of mutual care and support.
  • Be adaptable and respectful of the changing needs of our core members.
  • Ensure completion and maintenance of all eight (8) core competencies as required by Department of Opportunities and Social Development (DSOD) and any assigned Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S).
  • Complete online courses during Night Awake shifts wherever possible.
  • Participate in mandatory in-person training.
