About The Position

The NICU Outreach Coordinator supports the Level IV NICU by developing and sustaining strong relationships with regional NICUs and perinatal care teams. This role focuses on advancing neonatal clinical practice, supporting referring providers, strengthening referral partnerships, and promoting consistent, high-quality care coordination for neonates requiring transfer to a higher level of care. Requirements

  • Associate's Degree Nursing
  • Minimum of three years in clinical nursing focusing on NICU patients.
  • Registered Nurse Tennessee - Tennessee Board of Nursing
  • BASIC LIFE SUPPORT - American Heart Association
  • Class D Driver License -Tennessee - Tennessee Motor Vehicle

  • Skilled in communicating complex neonatal care concepts clearly to diverse audiences, including bedside clinicians, physicians, and hospital leadership.
  • Ability to establish trust and maintain strong professional alliances with diverse multi-disciplinary teams across different hospital networks.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Experience with public speaking.
  • Applied knowledge and experience utilizing tools/methods to perform clinical research and analysis in support of clinical quality Improvement activities.
  • Ability to operate standard office and presentation equipment.
  • Ability to review and summarize data observations and findings, present the findings in a clear and concise way, and assist with decisions related to performance improvement opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and coordinates neonatal education and outreach activities for regional NICUs, special care nurseries, and perinatal teams that refer or transfer patients to Le Bonheur.
  • Provides on-site and virtual education related to neonatal stabilization, resuscitation, ventilation, neurologic protection, thermoregulation, and family-centered care.
  • Supports referring NICUs in understanding Level IV criteria, transfer guidelines, and escalation pathways for complex neonatal cases.
  • Collaborates with NICU leadership to support neonatal quality improvement initiatives and shared learning opportunities.
  • Represents Le Bonheur at regional NICU, perinatal, and neonatal collaborative meetings as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Serves as the primary liaison between Le Bonheur’s Level IV NICU and regional NICUs, fostering strong, collaborative relationships that support ongoing partnership and trust.
  • Routinely travels to surrounding NICUs within the region to provide face-to-face opportunities for discussion, relationship-building, education, and problem-solving.
  • Serves as the designated coordinator for a closed-loop communication process between Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital’s Level IV NICU and referring/transferring NICUs.
  • Ensures confirmation of patient transfer and receipt of required clinical documentation, including History & Physicals, progress notes, and other relevant patient records, in collaboration with NICU leadership, transport teams, and operational partners.
  • Facilitates timely and appropriate information exchange during the patient’s hospitalization to support continuity of care and shared situational awareness.
