About The Position

MCS is hiring for a NICET III Fire Alarm Engineer / Designer in Tampa, FL. This is a full-time, permanent position with benefits. The NICET III Fire Alarm Engineer / Designer must demonstrate a strong ability to design, engineer, and develop code compliant fire alarm and life safety systems for commercial, healthcare, educational, industrial, and mission critical facilities. The NICET III Fire Alarm Engineer / Designer will require excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with project managers, estimators, contractors, AHJs, and clients. It is important that candidates stay current with industry trends, NFPA standards, local AHJ requirements, and applicable government regulations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • NICET Level III Fire Alarm Systems Certification strongly preferred. NICET Level II candidates with significant design experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of fire alarm system design, engineering, layout, installation, or service experience.
  • Strong experience designing and developing fire alarm system shop drawings and submittal packages.
  • Experience performing battery calculations, voltage drop calculations, and device placement layouts.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Revit, or similar design software.
  • Experience with fire alarm manufacturers including Notifier, Fire-Lite, Siemens, Edwards/EST, Gamewell-FCI, Silent Knight, and Simplex.
  • Ability to interpret architectural, electrical, and mechanical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of networked fire alarm systems, voice evacuation systems, mass notification systems, and emergency communication systems.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Candidate must exhibit a professional behavior that promotes teamwork, fosters cooperation and enhances productivity in the workplace.
  • Must be well organized with the ability to coordinate, prioritize, and execute multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Candidate must have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing to work effectively with various external customers including government, military, and contractor personnel at all levels.
  • Candidate must be able to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the company.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Electrical Technology, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • Experience supporting healthcare, education, government, industrial, or mission-critical facilities is highly preferred.
  • A current passport is required for Overseas travel.

Responsibilities

  • Review project specifications, bid documents, architectural drawings, and contract documents to determine system requirements.
  • Design and layout fire alarm and life safety systems in accordance with NFPA 72, NFPA 101, NEC, IBC, and local AHJ requirements.
  • Prepare complete fire alarm shop drawings, riser diagrams, battery calculations, voltage drop calculations, and equipment submittals.
  • Select and specify fire alarm devices, control panels, notification appliances, network components, and ancillary equipment.
  • Develop code compliant solutions for new construction, renovations, tenant improvements, and mission critical facilities.
  • Support estimating and pre construction teams by providing conceptual designs and technical guidance.
  • Review project plans and specifications to identify design conflicts and opportunities for value engineering.
  • Coordinate permitting requirements and respond to AHJ review comments.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and ensure compliance with all applicable codes and standards.
