About The Position

The New Hampshire Immigrant Visitation Program (NHIVP) Project Associate will support the implementation of a weekly visitation program for detained immigrants at the Strafford County jail in Dover, NH. NHIVP is a joint program of the American Friends Service Committee’s NH Program and the NH Conference United Church of Christ Immigrant and Refugee Support Group which has been in operation since February 2011. Working with the NHIVP leadership team, the Program will ensure that the visitation program is well-administered, with effective volunteer recruitment and support, development and maintenance of project resources, and communication with key partners.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum two years experience in immigration issues and understanding of immigrant detention required.
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends and to travel, as Ability to work effectively independently and within a team environment.
  • Experience with standard Microsoft Office and related technology.
  • Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the principles, concerns, and considerations, of AFSC in regard to issues of race, class, nationality, religion, age, gender and sexual orientation, and disabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with diverse staff.
  • Commitment to Quaker values and testimonies.
  • Understanding of and compatibility with the principles and philosophy of the American Friends Service Committee including non-violence and the belief in the intrinsic worth of every individual.
  • Respect for and sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, racial, gender and religious diversity and familiarity with non-violent approaches to problem solving.
  • Ability to organize, plan ahead and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain roster of current and former volunteers; oversee volunteer scheduling; communicate with prospective volunteers and share application materials; schedule volunteer interviews; manage communication with key staff at Strafford County Department of Corrections (SCDOC).
  • Work with NHIVP leadership team to create agenda for monthly and quarterly volunteer meetings; gather resources to share and arrange for presentations on key topics of interest/concern/need for visitors.
  • Forward requests for phone/commissary funds as well as requests for bond funds and legal funds to IRSG.
  • Regularly update NHIVP resource lists (attorneys, interpreters, translators, supportive services, financial assistance) for use by visitors.
  • Manage and supplement NHIVP resource archive.
  • Assist with research requests.
  • Maintain notes files, format for weekly distribution to visitors, update weekly to reflect transfers, releases, and removals.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are required.
  • Operates safely in all conditions and follows policies and procedures.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
