About The Position

Prisma International, Inc. (Prisma) is seeking experienced, professional Court-Certified and Court-Registered Interpreters to join our team as independent contractors. In this role, you will provide ONSITE interpreting (OSI) services to the New Hampshire Judicial Branch (NHJB). We are particularly in-demand for Spanish, but also welcome applications for Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), French, Haitian Creole, Nepali, Portuguese, Swahili, and Vietnamese. If your language is not on this list, you are welcome to apply if you meet all minimum requirements.

Requirements

  • Court-Certified or Court-Registered in New Hampshire (credentials required).
  • Agree to undergo annual criminal history and/or state registry background checks.
  • Strong understanding of NHJB procedures.
  • At least one (1) year of onsite consecutive or simultaneous interpreting experience in a legal/courts setting.
  • Two (2) professional references who can confirm your profession as an onsite consecutive or simultaneous interpreter.
  • Minimum age: 18+ years or older.
  • Minimum education: High School Diploma.
  • Full fluency in English and your native language.
  • Able to provide at least one of the following accreditations: American Translation Association (ATA) or trained or accredited through a higher education institution.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with consecutive or simultaneous onsite (in person) interpretation between a courts representative and non-English speakers.
  • Polite forms of expression, enunciation, and a high-level of customer service.
  • Correct grammar, clarity and tones between English and your native language.
  • Professional appearance, polite demeanor and punctual.

Responsibilities

  • Provide ONSITE interpreting (OSI) services to the New Hampshire Judicial Branch (NHJB).
  • Precisely document services provided for each session.
  • Deliver correct concepts and meanings between speaker and the Limited English Proficient (LEP) speaker.
  • Follow the speakers’ direction, professionally interject when clarification is needed, and manage the flow of a conversation.
  • Refrain from side conversations with the LEP and entering into any disagreement with the customer or LEP.
  • Comply with applicable ethics and standards.
