About The Position

The NFL Films Internship Program is a paid opportunity offering a unique learning environment in the sports television and film industries with an applied approach to learning. Award-winning staff mentor individuals with a serious desire to further their studies and achieve career goals. The program includes seminars on production topics, Q&A sessions with NFL executives and former interns, and opportunities to observe all phases of film and video production operations. Interns are assigned to one department for the duration of their internship, based on their stated interest, course of study, experience, and career path. Several departments offer internship opportunities, and detailed descriptions are provided to help applicants select their area of interest.

Requirements

  • Must be available on site for the duration of the internship session, five days a week from Monday through Friday (Full days = 8 hours; Half days are not an option for most positions).
  • Deadline to apply is 5:00pm EST Friday, June 12.
  • Must be a current college student who is a rising senior or a recent college graduate.
  • Must be enrolled in a full-time academic program and currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with a minimum GPA of at least 3.0, OR a college graduate who is less than 1-year from their graduation date at the scheduled start of the internship session.
  • Academic transcripts (official or unofficial) will be requested to confirm GPA.
  • Acceptance is contingent upon the outcome of a standard background investigation.

  • Preference is given to individuals with an understanding of editing software and an interest in telling creative football stories through video.
  • Requires candidates to have experience with editing software such as Premiere and Avid (outside of in-app video editing experience).
  • Desire to keep up with the dynamic pace of social media.
  • Fluency across multiple social media platforms is required.
  • Working knowledge of multiple social media platforms and editing experience is required.
  • A strong background in football beyond a love for the game is required.
  • Individuals applying for this position are required to possess a high level of X’s & O’s knowledge of the game at the college level and beyond and be able to communicate the overall structure of an offense or defense as well as overall scheme, matchup coverage, and play design in detail.
  • Basic knowledge of on-location film and video production and related camera and sound equipment.
  • Prior editing experience is a must.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience filming sports, narrative, and/or documentary-style (within or outside of the classroom) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Premiere is preferred.
  • Preference will be given to those with experience with the full Adobe Suite (Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop) and DaVinci Resolve.
  • Priority is given to those individuals studying the craft of Audio.
  • AirTable experience is a plus.
  • A basic understanding of the process and equipment used in television and film production as well as basic business knowledge are preferred.
  • Air Table knowledge is preferred but not required.
  • Preference is given to those individuals who have a strong knowledge of NFL players.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Emmy Award-winning Producers and learn all aspects of the NFL Films-style of storytelling.
  • Research the history of a player, team, or story.
  • Light editing.
  • Logging interviews, game footage, and radio calls.
  • On-location and in-house shoots.
  • Assist with the day-to-day operations of NFL Films’ social media channels.
  • Promote weekly shows, make creative use of archival footage, and craft new video content.
  • Tell a story with a quick video runtime and limited word count, while capturing the audience’s attention.
  • Document and interpret analytics to curate future content.
  • Track the growth of each platform and find new, creative ways to be in the conversation of news, pop culture, and football.
  • Review and analyze team coaching tape and produce/edit segments for analysis by on-air talent.
  • Build/edit a studio show with pre-packaged elements in Adobe Premiere.
  • Create promotional content for different social media platforms.
  • Learn from and assist engineers.
  • Work in the live television production studio and shooting stage.
  • Gain experience working with crews in the control rooms, tape room, video shading, and on teleprompter.
  • Assist stage and lighting crews with setting up various studio-based shows and ENG film style shoots.
  • Learn how to assemble, color correct, and finish/deliver content to broadcast partners.
  • Work with all of NFL Films’ productions in their final stages of completion.
  • Gain knowledge of operations on the shooting stage during live shoots, including setup, troubleshooting, wiring talent, and assisting the studio mixer.
  • Work with Music Editors who select, edit, QC and cue sheet music for productions.
  • Transfer legacy audio from various analog formats to digital files.
  • Locate audio clips for various productions.
  • Edit/archive radio calls from NFL games.
  • Sync daily production footage.
  • Observe and assist with on-location recording, voice-over recording, sound design, and post-production mixing sessions.
  • Learn the BlackMagic DaVinci Resolve/Fairlight DAW.
  • Learn proper care, maintenance, and handling of cinema cameras and lenses.
  • Learn audio mixers and recorder techniques.
  • Acquire real-world experience working with crews in the field for various shoots.
  • Learn how to light and shoot NFL Films-style productions.
  • Light and shoot in various test situations, while receiving feedback from Cinematographers and the Audio team.
  • Assist in researching and gathering material for outside television networks, NFL teams, news stations, and movies/television shows requiring NFL footage.
  • Utilize in-house search and database systems to choose aesthetically appropriate shots based on the request.
  • Create a compilation reel for each job.
  • Assist the department in completing additional daily tasks.
  • Assist in making crew calls.
  • Handle travel arrangements.
  • Obtain filming permits.
  • Request credentials.
  • Help organize logistical information into online systems & shared documents.
  • Observe and assist productions on-location when appropriate.
  • Research and fulfill requests submitted by Producers to acquire third-party footage & photos.
  • Acquire and license materials for various projects based on set deadlines and budgets.
  • Research photos or footage Producers would like to find for usage in their shows.
  • Communicate with various departments to get materials through the system.
  • Finalize and file paperwork (agreements, purchase orders, invoices, etc.).
  • Assist with research and acquiring of assets & courtesies.
  • Clearance of songs requested for use across all of NFL/NFL Media.
  • Track music clearances in spreadsheets and databases.
  • Request appropriate agreements and invoices.
  • Follow up with labels, publishers, managers and other third parties to ensure delivery of assets and all necessary releases and/or licenses.
  • Help organize and maintain the music library.
  • Assist the licensing NFL Films footage to third-party clients and League sponsors.
  • Research in-house materials for clients based on set deadlines and budgets.
  • Perform extensive database management.
  • Communicate with various departments to ensure footage licensing & delivery.
  • Shadow a Project Manager and observe how productions are budgeted, planned and executed.
  • Take a larger role in daily office tasks needed to manage various budgets.
  • Process timecards & invoices.
  • Enter details in the purchase order system.
  • Review expense reports.
  • Maintain databases and calendars.
  • Coordinate travel for talent.
  • Prepare and disseminate contracts and/or releases to all involved in the shoot.
  • Establish and strengthen relationships with all the NFL Club Members, players, and players’ agents.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate agreements with outside vendors and agents.
  • Assist with content review and production risk assessments for upcoming shoots.
