About The Position
WCTV is the dominant #1 CBS affiliate in Tallahassee, seeking a newscast and streaming producer. This role involves more than just stacking a show; candidates must demonstrate foundational skills and the ability to creatively craft a rundown. The producer will work closely with news managers and anchors to develop newscasts with an emphasis on local content, covering a range of topics from breaking news and severe weather to political headlines and feature stories.
Requirements
- 2 years of producing experience in a commercial newsroom is preferred, but entry-level candidates with internship experience or a degree in journalism will be considered
- Knowledge of video editing and scripting software
- Working knowledge of web and social platforms
- Ability to travel regionally and nationally
Responsibilities
- Participating in daily editorial meetings and evaluating pitches for potential lead stories
- Ordering stories in the rundown with emphasis on happening now, local, and live elements
- Collaborating with reporters and anchors on story concepts
- Selecting showcase elements, which could include maps, graphics, and video
- Writing scripts with a focus on accuracy and deliverability
- Making graphics and lower thirds for stories (and keeping them free of typos)
