Together, we are building a sustainable future for local news. KARE-TV, the TEGNA-owned NBC affiliate, located in Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN is looking for a Reporter/MSJ. We have a fun, award-winning group of journalists who are passionate about covering news, storytelling and covering our community. Breaking news, weather and traffic are the core of what we do…both on the air and on our digital platforms. We also care deeply about our community, sharing people’s stories and connecting with them over the air and in person. We’re looking for someone with strong live skills who is also a content leader, strong enterpriser and good newsroom citizen that understands how to connect on all platforms as a Multi-skilled Journalist. We want someone deeply committed to local news who regularly breaks stories in their market and gets noticed. In addition, they must be an efficient writer and developer of sources and strong story pitches.

Requirements

  • College degree in journalism, communications, or related field.
  • 1-3 years experience as an MMJ.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under deadline pressure.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of multiplatform news gathering tools and resources, including digital media.
  • Previous experience using Edius and ENPS is a plus.
  • Demonstrated track record for acting on viewer tips, developing sources and breaking stories.
  • Willingness and desire to work AM hours.
  • Reputation as a team player who values working collaboratively.
  • Required on-site. Must be willing to work in Minneapolis/St. Paul metro.

Responsibilities

  • Generate unique, compelling and innovative story/show ideas and content.
  • Develop story ideas, cultivate sources, write, shoot and edit stories for on-air, streaming, social media and digital.
  • Report live from the field.
  • To be a strong communicator with the ability to react quickly to breaking news in a changing environment.
  • Excellent, creative presentation and writing skills a must.
  • Write and post daily on all digital platforms.
  • Community and/or talent appearances.
  • Perform other tasks as required
