News Producer
About The Position
ABC 17 News is seeking a News Producer passionate about local journalism, creative storytelling, and delivering news viewers need to know. The News Producer develops and oversees compelling newscasts that reflect the ABC 17 News brand. The role requires precise timing, sound news judgment, strong editorial instincts, exceptional writing skills, and critical thinking to create engaging, informative newscasts. The producer takes ownership of a newscast from start to finish, makes real-time editorial decisions, oversees live broadcasts, and collaborates with reporters, anchors, and news managers. The newsroom is research-driven and has a distinct brand; the organization provides onboarding to its approach and expects producers to use accurate, urgent, enterprise-minded, and viewer-focused storytelling. Producers also contribute to digital platforms and may assist with reporting or other newsroom duties as needed. The Networks of Mid-Missouri is owned by a company focused on providing advertising and marketing strategies for its clients and news coverage in the markets it serves. Requirements
- Exceptional writing skills and attention to word choice, accuracy, grammar, and spelling.
- Strong news judgment and an eye for compelling visuals.

- Avid consumer of local news with understanding of issues, events, and trends shaping the community.
Nice To Haves
- College degree in journalism, communications, or a related field preferred.
- Previous newsroom experience is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Develop and oversee compelling newscasts that reflect the ABC 17 News brand.
- Take ownership of a newscast from start to finish.
- Make real-time editorial decisions and oversee live broadcasts.
- Collaborate with reporters, anchors, and news managers.
- Contribute to editorial discussions and develop story ideas.
- Write scripts, select video and graphics, and find creative ways to present stories on television.
- Apply the newsroom’s approach through accurate, urgent, enterprise-minded, and viewer-focused storytelling.
- Contribute to digital platforms.
- Assist with reporting or other newsroom duties as needed.
