About The Position

The Wisconsin State Journal is seeking a collaborative, curious and creative News Editor to guide community news coverage in the Madison area. The editor will coach reporters covering important local stories, edit news content, and help ensure readers receive timely news across platforms. Strong editing and organizational skills are essential. The role reports to the City Editor and involves afternoon work and some evenings.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of daily newspaper experience.
• Knowledge of the AP Stylebook is essential.
• Strong communication skills.
• Strong editing and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

• Editing experience preferred.
• A bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Knowledge of content management systems preferred.
• Video editing skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Guide reporters on coverage.
• Edit news content and guide reporters on writing and reporting.
• Budget content and support production staff as needed through copy editing and working with designers.
• Work with other editors to develop new ways to reach readers.
• Edit and post breaking news on Madison.com.
