About The Position

KRCG is seeking an experienced, hands-on News Director to lead its newsroom and produce impact stories, with a distinctive focus on accountability reporting. The role manages news operations and staff producing more than 50 hours of local news weekly, and works collaboratively with sales managers to identify new sponsorship opportunities. The News Director also partners with local and corporate management to establish news content, philosophy, and direction, and collaborates with other managers on marketing plans and ratings goals.

Requirements

Working knowledge of journalistic ethics, libel, and privacy laws.
Strong fiscal experience with operational and capital expenditures.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple hours of daily newscasts on two stations.
Proven track record of success in building a winning news organization.
Journalism degree.
Minimum of five years of experience in news management.
Noted leadership skills.

Responsibilities

Manage the station’s news operations, set budgets, establish goals, and direct the staff producing more than 50 hours of local news weekly.
Initiate and manage growing content delivery across multiple platforms.
Work with local and corporate management to establish news content, philosophy, and direction.
Review daily newscasts for quality control and brand compliance, then provide feedback to news staff.
Recruit, hire, and negotiate contracts for news department personnel.
Collaborate with other managers to develop marketing plans, establish ratings goals, and work toward achieving them.
Work with sales managers to identify new sponsorship opportunities.
