About The Position
CNN is seeking a News Desk Producer to work at the nerve center of the Washington newsroom. The ideal candidate is someone who embraces the challenge of multi-tasking in a fast-paced news environment. You will be responsible for coordinating and managing live signals for DC events and other incoming feeds while providing timely updates to the shows and digital managers and maintaining communications with them. In your role, you will help coordinate pool coverage of events for the network. You will work closely with field operations managers to launch crews to cover news stories in the DC area and maintain contact with photojournalists and producers in the field in order to relay editorial information to the newsroom and the network as stories develop. You will be responsible for ensuring that visual elements and related editorial information are quickly shared with the network including fresh video shot in the field by CNN photojournalists and social media video related to developing stories. You will work with DC reporting teams to cut newsworthy video elements for digital platforms. Another responsibility of your job will be to help the newsgathering operation by making calls to DC area officials when necessary, including police and fire departments. This role demands sharp editorial judgment, rapid decision‑making, and the ability to pivot instantly as priorities shift in a high‑pressure, high‑volume environment.
Requirements
- 3-5 years of progressively complex related experience.
- Strong editorial acumen and ability to interpret
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced news environment 24 hours/ 365 days a year
- College degree or equivalent industry experience
Responsibilities
- Coordinate feeds for DC bureau ensuring all participants are informed about logistics
- Work with satellites and feeds to ensure elements are routed and recorded
- Communicate with shows and other desks regarding incoming events and feeds
- Coordinate pool coverage and dissemination
- Edit newsworthy video elements for digital platforms
- Work with field production managers to coordinate on assignments for photojournalists and launch crews on breaking news or developing stories
- Ensure new video and other visual elements are shared with the network along with related editorial information
- Assist newsgathering by making calls to DC area officials
- Monitor other news outlets and flag any important editorial that CNN needs to chase
