The Registered Nurse III is responsible for providing case management to all infants and families across Oklahoma for children with an out-of-range newborn screen result. This role involves coordinating daily case management for newborns screened for 54+ metabolic disorders through the Newborn Screening Program (NBS), a statutory program for all newborns statewide. The position requires independently planning, organizing, and completing complex assignments and tailoring detailed care plans applicable to the individualized nature of each condition for infants at high risk for rapid status change, cognitive delay, and death secondary to an abnormal screen. The nurse will manage case files, track testing results for all abnormal and unsatisfactory screenings, and consult with hospitals and healthcare providers to ensure appropriate follow-up treatments are scheduled and received. Additionally, the role includes mentoring healthcare providers and families, providing technical direction and supervision to subordinate staff, offering technical support to physicians and medical professionals, adhering to time-critical schedules, and coordinating with follow-up specialists. The position also involves leading specialty workgroup meetings and providing NBS education to stakeholders and at community events. Being present in the office is an essential function of this job.
