About The Position
A warm, first-time family on the Upper East Side is seeking an experienced Newborn Care Specialist or nanny to care for their 5-month-old son. The family is looking for a calm, collaborative, and dependable caregiver who can provide consistency and stability and potentially become a long-term, trusted part of the family. The initial assignment is overnight support for approximately 2–3 months, working Saturday, Sunday, and Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. If the arrangement is a good fit, the role may transition into a longer-term Newborn Care Specialist or nanny position. At least one trial day is required. The family seeks a local candidate for an immediate start.
Requirements
- Extensive experience caring for newborns and young infants.
- Ability to commit for at least 2 months and provide the family with first right of refusal for an extension of the contract.
- Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to addressing concerns.
- CPR certification.
- Up-to-date vaccinations.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
- Calm, patient, warm, and nurturing manner.
- Confidence managing overnight care independently.
- Understanding of infant sleep, feeding, and developmental needs.
- Discretion and professionalism.
- Ability to work in a busy household without becoming overwhelmed.
- Initiative and attentiveness to tasks that need doing.
- Collaborative and supportive approach.
- High reliability and consistency.
Responsibilities
- Provide attentive, loving care for the infant.
- Manage overnight care, including feeding, bathing, soothing, diapering, and supporting a healthy sleep routine.
- Follow and help establish consistent daily and nighttime routines.
- Monitor the infant’s cues, development, and changing needs.
- Communicate with the parents about sleep, feeding, mood, and milestones, and maintain a log.
- Keep the nursery organized and tidy.
- Handle the baby’s laundry using the washer and dryer in the apartment.
- Do light cleaning and tidying related to the baby.
- Help maintain a calm, clean, and organized environment for the baby.
- Work collaboratively with parents and other family members or caregivers when needed.
- Provide knowledgeable newborn guidance and support to the parents.
