About The Position

The New Student Mentor works as a member of the TXWES Orientation team and serves as a peer leader who supports the planning and facilitation of New Student Registration Days and Ram Camp. This position helps incoming students transition successfully to Texas Wesleyan University by building relationships, leading small groups through the orientation experience, and modeling positive, professional, and welcoming customer service. The position also helps the student employee build leadership, communication, and event-support skills while supporting the university’s mission of student success.

Requirements

  • Must be a current Texas Wesleyan University student.
  • Must have completed at least one full academic year at Texas Wesleyan University by the start of the training period.
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • Must be in good standing with the university.
  • Must be available for all required training dates and orientation events during the 2026-2027 academic year.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with new students to support their transition to Texas Wesleyan University, serving as an approachable, positive, and reliable point of contact throughout the orientation process.
  • Lead a small group of new students throughout their orientation experience, guiding them through Ram Camp and New Student Registration Days activities and helping them build connections with peers.
  • Attend and actively participate in all required trainings during the semester and summer, and all Orientation dates, including Ram Camp and mid-year and summer New Student Registration Days.
  • Work with fellow New Student Mentors and Orientation staff to plan, coordinate, and carry out welcome weekend activities that help incoming students feel supported and included.
  • Encourage and support students, student organizations, academic departments, and campus programs by promoting events and initiatives that benefit the student community and align with the university’s mission.
  • Cultivate and maintain positive, professional working relationships with staff, faculty, and students, and participate in ongoing student leadership development trainings and workshops.
  • Adhere to all university and departmental policies and guidelines, complete other assigned duties, and protect confidential student information in accordance with FERPA.
