New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineer
About The Position
Lightmatter is developing data center photonics technology for advanced AI and HPC workloads. The New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineer supports the development, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of advanced computing systems and prototypes. The role works closely with hardware and software engineers and contract manufacturers on board-level and system-level test, bring-up, validation, and debug, bridging design engineering and contract manufacturing. This position helps ensure new products are introduced into production smoothly, efficiently, and with high quality. It develops and implements manufacturing processes and documentation, conducts design for manufacturability reviews, and leads pilot builds both in-house and at external contract manufacturers. The engineer evaluates boards, components, and subassemblies for manufacturability, identifies production issues early, and works with internal design teams and suppliers to resolve them.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a similar discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in Electrical Design, NPI, or manufacturing engineering.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and quality systems.
- Experience with DFM/DFA principles and tools.
- Proficiency in CAD software and engineering documentation.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
- Capacity to comply with federally mandated U.S. export control requirements.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate boards, components, and subassemblies for manufacturability and identify potential production issues early in the development cycle.
- Work with internal design teams and external suppliers to resolve production and manufacturability issues.
- Create and maintain process documentation, including work instructions, process flow diagrams, and control plans.
- Assist with assembly and integration of complex electromechanical and electronic systems, including PCBA, chassis, and rack-level hardware.
- Triage and debug build issues in-house and at external contract manufacturing sites.
- Collaborate with subject-matter experts to identify root causes and deploy corrective measures, and actively track build progress.
- Execute and document test procedures, including test setup, data collection, and issue tracking.
- Troubleshoot hardware issues and identify root causes, including short circuits, signal integrity problems, and power-related faults.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings to assist with assembly and debugging.
- Conduct design for manufacturability reviews and lead pilot builds in-house and at external contract manufacturers.
