About The Position

SCRI Oncology Partners, located in Nashville, Tenn., is a dedicated cancer treatment center led by globally recognized oncologists with disease expertise in cancer care and clinical research. This center offers patients state-of-the art personalized cancer care and opportunities to participate in clinical trials with innovative treatments. The practice conducts clinical trials through their affiliation with Sarah Cannon Research Institute (SCRI), a global leader in oncology research that has been offering and managing clinical trials in the community for over 30 years. Since its inception, SCRI has contributed to pivotal research that has helped advance the majority of new cancer therapies approved by the FDA today.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum three to five years office experience, preferably in a medical office setting.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and coding required.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) required.

Responsibilities

  • Answers all incoming calls; assesses calls. Obtains and communicates messages in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Schedules new patients and patient referrals in computer system in accordance with physician and/or office guidelines. For new and or referred patients, sets up in system with appropriate documentation.
  • Cancels/reschedules appointments according to physician schedule changes; notifies appropriate clinic personnel.
  • Obtains any pertinent information needed for the visit (labs, scan reports, pathology reports, labs, etc.)
  • Obtains and enters all authorization and correspondence relating to referrals in patients’ charts and/or electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Maintains primary office scheduling template.
  • Arranges for patients to have financial counseling as needed.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of patient confidentiality to protect the patient and clinic/practice.
  • Follows policies and procedures to contribute to the efficiency of the front office.
  • Prepares correspondence, memos, forms and other typing as requested by supervisor.
  • May communicate to patients about surgeries or tests being scheduled and potential prep work needed, inquiring about test specifics from necessary parties and gathering patient information as needed
  • Communicates with Sarah Cannon Research nurses on patient readiness from a research standpoint.
  • Uploads records into Health View X for research nurses to review.
  • Calls and documents in Health view X all attempts to reach and schedule patients.
  • Communicate with providers if there is not an available new patient spot within 5-7 days.
  • Where applicable, applies basic understanding of medical terminology for tests and surgical procedures, including coding and ability to look up codes specific to diagnosis, surgery and scheduling procedures.
