About The Position

Food & Water Watch is seeking a part-time New Mexico Organizer to join their Organizing team. This role will support campaigns focused on protecting food, water, and climate. The Organizer will collaborate with volunteers, allies, and other Food & Water Watch staff. The position is based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and is primarily remote, with occasional requirements to report to the office for meetings or trainings. Food & Water Watch is dedicated to creating a healthy future with accessible food, clean water, and a livable climate by engaging people at local, state, and federal levels to build a movement with political power. The New Mexico Organizer will report to the Rural Organizing Manager and work with organizing, digital, and communications teams to build the volunteer base and advance statewide campaigns, particularly those fighting factory farms and data center development. This is a part-time, temporary, grant-funded position for a one-year term, paid hourly and classified as non-exempt.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of full-time organizing experience, or an equivalent combination of full-time and volunteer experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute effective organizing strategies.
  • Familiarity with New Mexico’s politics and communities.
  • Commitment to Food & Water Watch’s core values of justice, human dignity, fair treatment, and equity.
  • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse racial, ethnic, class, age, gender, and sexual orientation backgrounds.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent time management & organizational skills and ability to balance multiple projects.
  • Ability to work remotely using basic online programs, including email, Slack, and Google docs.
  • Currently authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit volunteers and allies, building a strong base of support for local, state, and national campaigns.
  • Participate in the development of campaign plans, including setting long and short-term goals, strategies, and tactics.
  • Organize campaign tactics such as educational events, base-building drives, and actions targeting elected officials.
  • Develop volunteer and grassroots organization leadership through training and organizing support.
  • Represent Food & Water Watch at public events and in press interviews, and participate in coalitions and joint campaigns.
  • Utilize digital tools like ThruText, Scale to Win, and Mobilize.
  • Maintain familiarity with Food & Water Watch's priority issue campaigns and policy positions, and respond to information requests.
  • Participate in member recruitment for Food & Water Watch.
  • Carry out other assigned projects.
