About The Position

The Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program™ is a year-long residency built upon an evidenced-based curriculum. During the program, nurse residents will participate in a series of learning and work experiences geared toward their transition to a competent professional. At the end of the program, nurse residents will have improved confidence, competence, prioritization, communication skills, and decreased stress levels. The evidenced-based curriculum delivers on three key areas: Leadership, Patient safety outcomes, and Professional development. This position may qualify for a $4k sign-on bonus. The Novice R.N. is responsible for the identification of needs, treatment, or care appropriate to the ages of the patients served. They will demonstrate the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient's needs, possessing knowledge of growth and development and understanding the range of treatment needed for these patient groups. The New Graduate/Novice R.N., under the direct or indirect supervision of an RN, may perform any function previously learned, which may include total body assessments and medication administration. The Novice R.N. will not be assigned individual nursing responsibilities and functions that are beyond the measured competence of their abilities. Responsibilities will be commensurate with the New Graduate's level of practice and competence and within the policies at Sierra View Medical Center (SVMC).

Requirements

  • Must have CA RN License or be scheduled to take the NCLEX and have Interim Permit from the CA Board of Nursing.
  • Must have and maintain current BLS certification prior to hands-on patient care.
  • Successful completion of orientation to area which assigned.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence if required.
  • Ability to calculate medications appropriate to patient population served.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the Vizient/AACN Nurse Residency Program™.
  • Perform patient care activities based on the individual's learning foundation and novice status.
  • Identify patient needs, treatments, and care appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
  • Obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs.
  • Perform total body assessments and medication administration as learned.
  • Work normal/scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call.
  • Participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours.
  • Assist in times of need pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act.
  • Report perceived misconduct, including actual or potential violations of laws, regulations, policies, procedures, or the organization’s standards/code of conduct.
  • Work well under pressure, meet multiple and sometimes competing deadlines.
  • Demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.
