New Graduate Engineer, Infrastructure

SpaceX•Starbase, TX, TX

About The Position

SpaceX is seeking a new graduate mechanical engineer to help build the infrastructure behind power generation and supercompute at Starbase. The role supports mechanical work from concept through design, fabrication, construction, and commissioning. Work may span power generation, fluid and cooling systems, and the structures and equipment that production depends on. The engineer will collaborate across engineering, construction, and operations, and contribute to hardware that must perform in the field.

Requirements

  • Graduating with a bachelor's degree, master's degree, or PhD in 2026 or 2027.
  • Degree in an engineering discipline or physics.
  • At least 1 year of mechanical design, analysis, build, or test experience through a project team, research, internships, and/or professional experience.
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
  • Ability and willingness to relocate to Starbase, Texas (Brownsville, Texas area).
  • Ability to safely work at heights up to 500 feet, in confined spaces, and while using an air-purifying respirator, and to perform the physical requirements listed in the job description.
  • Must meet ITAR eligibility requirements: be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee, or be eligible to obtain the required U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or project experience in mechanical design, structural analysis, fluids, thermal systems, or power and cooling equipment.
  • Experience with CAD and hand calculations or an analysis package such as NASTRAN, ABAQUS, ANSYS, Python, Matlab, or Excel.
  • Strong ability to use data and analysis to make fast, data-driven decisions.
  • Ability to perform trade studies and make clear recommendations using first principles and engineering fundamentals, including with partial information.
  • Experience at a nimble engineering organization or in a highly technical position requiring a scrappy, entrepreneurial approach under tight time or budget constraints.
  • A record of excelling in highly competitive environments, such as placing in engineering, math, or science competitions, achieving top-percentile scholastic or standardized test scores, or demonstrating other exceptional intellectual achievements.
  • Experience building hardware or a passion for contributing to a work product that operates in the real world.
  • Success in multiple endeavors at once, such as working through college, participating as a student athlete, or demonstrating strong performance across multiple fields.
  • Demonstrated rapid growth, such as taking on successive positions of increasing responsibility, getting up to speed quickly, or accomplishing something meaningfully difficult early in a career.
  • Demonstrated resilience and ability to overcome failure or extreme odds.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design concepts and help size infrastructure systems based on operational loads, site conditions, and facility operations.
  • Collaborate across disciplines to develop designs that balance cost, schedule, reliability, and capability.
  • Create detailed designs, CAD models, and prints for components, assemblies, and integration into the larger site.
  • Build analysis models to assess designs and confirm they meet system needs.
  • Use first-order hand calculations and empirical formulas to assess and rapidly iterate on designs.
  • Support validation using development hardware, mockups, or first articles, and testing critical joints, components, and design elements.
  • Support testing and commissioning of subsystems and full installations.
  • Partner with construction, build engineers, and technicians to improve designs and resolve issues found during build and installation.
  • Support field installation of hardware and observe designs being built, brought online, and placed into service.
  • Participate in design reviews and help move designs from development into installed hardware.
