Mercy Hospital’s 4B Rehabilitation Unit cares for stroke and cardiac patients who need therapies to promote mobility and regain independence. With a “slower” pace and patients remaining in the unit for up to 14 days, caregivers are able to spend more time with their patients and really get to know them. Many of the discharged patients have come back to visit the unit as they are genuinely appreciative of the care they received. As an RN Resident on the team, you will deliver exceptional care throughout the patient care journey, alongside a success coach. In this role, you will interact directly with patients and their families, offering the opportunity to enhance their experience, provide healthcare education as needed, and ensure that they are equipped to leave the hospital care setting.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN program)
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
• New graduate RN OR less than one year of RN work experience

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Responsibilities

• Participate in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs.
• Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach.
• Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care (acuity of need, patient preference and resource availability).
• Initiate and/or maintain interventions to assure continuity of safe/effective care for patients.
• Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate action to correct, reduce or prevent risk.
• Seek supervision, consultation and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.
• Document in patients’ medical records.
