J61 and J63 are 24-bed cardiovascular telemetry units specializing in post–open heart, surgical, and ventricular assist device (VAD) patients. These fast-paced units provide a high-acuity environment where nurses develop advanced skills while caring for patients undergoing procedures such as coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), minimally invasive and robotic heart surgery, valve repair or replacement, and other complex cardiac interventions. The units also manage conditions including myocardial infarction, heart failure, arrhythmias, and device implantation or removal. Nurses on J61 and J63 deliver comprehensive, patient-centered care through specialized teamwork and individualized education to support safe recovery and discharge. The units offer strong opportunities for professional growth, hands-on experience with innovative treatments, and involvement in education and community outreach initiatives.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN program)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • New grad OR less than one year RN work experience OR if an experienced RN moving from non-inpatient to acute direct care clinical inpatient setting with less than one year of current acute direct patient care RN experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross upon hire

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within one year of hire

Responsibilities

  • Participate in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs.
  • Provide direct nursing care alongside a success coach.
  • Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care (acuity of need, patient preference and resource availability).
  • Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate action to correct, reduce or prevent risk.
  • Seek supervision, consultation and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.
  • Document in patients’ medical records.
