The Nursing Graduate works under the direct line-of-sight supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) in the clinical setting and participates appropriately in patient care delivery. The graduate orients to the RN assignment but does not provide independent nursing care. Medication administration may be performed under the direction and supervision of a licensed RN. The Nursing Graduate role may be used for up to 12 weeks while the employee participates in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program and prepares for, takes, and passes the State Boards examination to obtain an RN license. After 12 weeks, or after a second failure of the State Board exam, the employee may no longer remain in the Nursing Graduate role. The employee may apply for other open positions for which they qualify. Failure to pass boards or obtain another position will result in termination. Graduates must be enrolled in and have started coursework in the Intermountain Nurse Residency program before providing direct patient care, including care supervised by an RN. The position is with the 28-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, a Magnet-designated Level I Pediatric Trauma Center serving the Intermountain West. The PICU cares for infants, children, and teenagers with complex critical conditions, including trauma, transplant recovery, ECMO, and respiratory failure. The unit has an average nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1.2 and works collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, and critical care technicians. The education program spans 3–5 years and includes didactic learning, research, projects, and oral and written evaluations, with learning in neurotrauma, respiratory, cardiovascular, and metabolic care. The Nursing Graduate supports the nursing process under direct RN supervision, participates in patient and family education, discusses care and prioritization with the RN, and completes orientation and training requirements, including progression through and completion of the Nursing Residency program. The employee is expected to achieve RN licensure in a timely manner under Intermountain Health standards and expectations. Start date: January 4, 2026. The role is scheduled for 36 hours per week. The listed hourly rate is $32.27, dependent on experience.
