About The Position

The University of New Mexico Department of Neurology seeks a neuromuscular neurologist to join our faculty as a clinician-educator. The role involves providing outstanding patient care in the outpatient setting at the University of New Mexico Hospital Clinical Neurosciences Center. The neuromuscular faculty offers comprehensive care for a wide range of neuromuscular disorders. Clinical duties include outpatient care, electrodiagnostic testing, neuromuscular ultrasound, and managing patients on advanced therapies. Academic responsibilities include teaching medical students, residents, and fellows, and participating in departmental research. The successful candidate must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate in interdisciplinary teams. The neuromuscular section is supported by philanthropic funding and has established multidisciplinary clinics for ALS and Muscular Dystrophy. New Mexico has the largest known population of individuals with Oculopharyngeal Muscular Dystrophy (OPMD), offering unique opportunities. The UNM Department of Neurology has 43 faculty members and supports clinical programs, research, and residency programs. Fellowship training is available in clinical neurophysiology and other subspecialties. University of New Mexico Hospital is the state's only Level I Trauma Center and serves as the primary academic medical center. The UNM School of Medicine is dedicated to excellence in patient care, education, research, and service.

Requirements

MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree
Board certified or board eligible in neurology
Completion of an adult neurology residency by the start date
Eligibility for medical licensure in the State of New Mexico
Eligible to work in the United States

Nice To Haves

Completion of a neuromuscular or clinical neurophysiology fellowship by the start date
Experience diagnosing and managing patients with neuromuscular disorders
Expertise in electrodiagnostic testing (EMG/NCS); experience with neuromuscular ultrasound is desirable
Interest in neuromuscular clinical research and/or scholarly activity
Commitment to medical education and mentorship of learners
A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the University's mission to serve local and global communities.

Responsibilities

Outpatient patient care
