About The Position

At LCMC Health, we are seeking a Neurodiagnostic Technician CNIM to perform standard and complex electro-neurophysiological testing. This role involves providing testing on the central nervous system, adhering to department policies and guidelines, including long-term epilepsy monitoring, electroencephalograms, and evoked potentials. The technician will also perform various specialized tests such as LED and pattern shift, electroretinogram, and electrocorticography for grid and robotic-assisted procedures. Additionally, they will provide support for electromyogram testing/nerve conduction studies and Botox injections, maintain surgical supply stock for epilepsy surgery, and practice the International 10/20 Measuring System. A key part of this role is explaining procedures to patients, documenting their neurological status, and ensuring patient safety. The technician will also be responsible for technical recording enhancement, recognizing and eliminating artifacts, creating new system files and settings, and maintaining/cleaning equipment. This position may also act as a resource for other team members, including training in various neurodiagnostics modalities and assisting with office duties. Requirements

  • 2 years of Intraoperative monitoring.
  • Certification Name: Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (CPR, BLS) Required Issuer: American Heart Association
  • Certification Name: Certification for Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring (CNIM) Required Issuer: American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists, Inc. (ABRET)
  • Excellent oral/written interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to perform standard/complex neurodiagnostic studies according to established standards and practices on patients from 0-21 years.
  • Ability to maintain a compassionate and professional demeanor while providing care for severely ill patients.
  • Ability to safeguard patients in emergency situations.
  • Ability to follow HIPPA guidelines.
  • Ability to develop, maintain and adapt to the culture and professionalism within the facility.
  • Ability to prioritize and develop organization within the work environment.
  • Skills/Operation of Equipment include electroencephalograph/LTM System(s), evoked potentials/EMG System(s), personal computer and peripherals, video equipment, other essential diagnostic equipment, facsimile, photocopier, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Performs Standard and Complex Electro-Neurophysiological Testing: Provides testing on central nervous system, remains compliant to department policy and guideline standards implemented including long-term epilepsy monitoring, electroencephalograms, evoked potentials, etc.
  • Performs LED and pattern shift, electroretinogram, electrocorticography for grid and robotic assisted procedures, electrophysiologic monitoring in surgery including evoked potentials, motor evoked potentials, free run and stimulated electromyogram, cranial nerve monitoring, h-reflexes, stimulated nerve mapping, etc.
  • Provides assistance with electromyogram testing/nerve conduction studies and Botox injections.
  • Maintains stock supply for surgical procedures related to epilepsy surgery.
  • Practices International 10/20 Measuring System.
  • Explanation and education of procedures: Identifies patient according to policy. Provides a clear explanation of the procedure to the patient and/or responsible person present.
  • Summarizes the patient's neurological status and enters completed comprehensive patient history into the acquiring computer system.
  • Neurological Documentation: Provides appropriate patient care and detailed observations of clinical manifestations during a clinical or subclinical event and other emergent situations.
  • Takes appropriate action to ensure patient safety.
  • Verifies all test requested include appropriate orders for the procedures and the procedures are accurately charged and entered in data logging.
  • Technical Recording Enhancement: Implements alternative methods, adjust controls outside of the normative parameters to obtain optimal recording and is able to enhance abnormalities.
  • Utilizes stimulation and activation techniques appropriately.
  • Recognizes, documents and eliminates artifacts and/or take proper measures to monitor suspected artifacts.
  • Creates, programs new files and settings used in the Neurodiagnostic protocol using system software and procedure guidelines.
  • Safety: Maintains and cleans equipment after use (basic infection control) to ensure equipment is in proper working order.
  • Applies troubleshooting methods, repairs and/or replaces instrument parts as needed with immediate notification to the manager.
  • Communicates with technical support during troubleshooting of equipment and/or computer.
  • Lifts, moves or transfers patients utilizing proper body mechanics to prevent self-injury or injury to others.
  • Acts as a resource for other team members as needed including training of staff in all modalities provided in neurodiagnostics (including intra-operative protocols).
  • Offers assistance in office duties such as, but is not limited to, answering phones, scheduling appointments and scanning.
