This role involves designing and executing area orientation and education for new staff, overseeing new employees’ orientation and training, and coordinating technical quality assurance activities. The position also involves coaching and facilitating the clinical advancement of students and staff, providing rotational shift coverage, and performing all duties of an EEG Technologist II. Additionally, the role supports personnel matters by developing and maintaining EEG Technologist Schedules, providing performance feedback, and overseeing daily operations and supervision of EEG Technologist personnel in the absence of the Practice Manager. The educator interfaces with vendors for equipment purchases, ensures equipment maintenance and function, and assists with EEG equipment maintenance and repairs. A key responsibility is maintaining an effective training program for new EEG Technologists, designing and implementing continuing education sessions, and verifying technical competencies. The role also involves maintaining liaison between BIDMC and area EEG Technologist Training programs, supervising and training students, and ensuring EEG labs are properly stocked and supplies are ordered. The educator is responsible for creating and maintaining accreditation documentation, policy and procedure manuals, and safety protocols, serving as the safety officer for the lab. They will also take a lead role in triaging and prioritizing procedures during high demand times, assigning tasks to other EEG technologists, and compiling volume and statistics for the department. Participation in a rotating schedule for weekdays, weekends, and holidays is required.

Requirements

  • Registration in 1 modality required, such as EEG (R. EEG T.)
  • Effective teaching skills are required.
  • Experience with EEG Set up, Evaluation, including outpatient routine and ambulatory EEG, inpatient continuous EEG monitoring, intracranial EEG monitoring.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.
  • Written Communications: Ability to summarize and communicate in English moderately complex information in varied written formats to internal and external customers.
  • Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and communicate complex verbal information in English to medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
  • Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.
  • Team Work: Ability to work collaboratively in small teams to improve the operations of immediate work group by offering ideas, identifying issues, and respecting team members.
  • Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.
  • Age based Competencies: Employee in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Neonatal: Birth to 6 months, Young adult: 16-30 years, Middle Age: 30 - 60 years, Elderly: 60
  • Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Designs and executes area orientation and education of new staff to the department, including development and coordination of educational materials and orientation workshops
  • Oversees new employees’ orientation and trains in accordance with the policies and procedures of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center
  • Coordinates technical quality assurance activities for employees continually evaluating effectiveness of educational programs and adjusts accordingly
  • Coaches and actively facilitates the clinical advancement of students and staff. Coaches orientees and guides staff to appropriate resources to achieve performance expectations.
  • Able to provide rotational shift coverage to the Neurodiagnostic Tech III staffing when needed
  • Performs all duties of an EEG Technologist II.
  • Provides support in personnel matters by developing and maintaining EEG Technologist Schedules. Provides on-going performance feedback and addresses problems. Confirms that studies performed by other technologists are performed to established standards. In the absence of the Practice Manager, responsible for daily operations and oversees the supervision of all EEG Technologist personnel.
  • Interfaces with vendors and purchasing department for equipment purchases. Ensures equipment is working properly and up to department standards. Resolves all discrepancies with vendors. Ensures the proper maintenance and function of the equipment used in the laboratory. Conducts quality control testing of equipment as necessary.
  • Assists with EEG Equipment maintenance; repairs minor malfunctions where necessary and refers difficult issues to EEG Lab Clinical Engineering and/or manufacturer. Conducts quality control testing of equipment. Works with Clinical Engineering to ensure that EEG software and hardware are functioning correctly and is the primary contact for these issues when Clinical Engineering is unavailable.
  • Maintains an effective training program for new EEG Technologists. Designs and implements continuing education sessions for EEG Technologists and verifies technical competencies on an ongoing basis. Maintains liaison between BIDMC and area EEG Technologist Training program, by supervising and training students.
  • Ensures that EEG labs are properly stocked. Ensures that EEG lab supplies are ordered as necessary. Creates and maintains accreditation (JCAHO) documentation, policy and procedure manuals, and safety and medical emergency protocols for the lab. Serves as safety officer for lab. Maintains MSDS information on all substances used in lab and reviews safety measures with staff.
  • Assumes a lead role in triaging and prioritizing procedures during times of high demand and acuity, including the assignment of tasks to other EEG technologists, demonstrating equanimity and fairness in doing so, in concert with the clinical leadership, attendings and fellow physicians, and practice manager.
  • Compiles volume and statistics for the department, using developed digital tools. Prepares digital ledgers for upcoming weeks
  • Must participate with the rotating schedule for weekdays/weekends and holidays.
