About The Position

This is an entry-level position for a Neurodiagnostic Assistant. The role involves performing neurodiagnostic testing procedures, including independently hooking patients up to EEG equipment, ensuring network access, and acquiring EEG data. Responsibilities also include maintaining equipment, troubleshooting issues, managing supplies, and ensuring a safe and organized work environment. The position requires accurate documentation of patient information and events in various systems like Epic and Natus. Neurodiagnostic Assistants assist EEG Technologists in gathering data for physician interpretation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of departmental training program and Core Curriculum established by ASET within 18 months of hire.
  • No directly related experience.
  • Must obtain BLS Certification within 1 month of hire and maintain BLS Certification.
  • Must successfully obtain the ABRET credentialing for Registered EEG Technologist (R. EEG T.) within two years of hire into this position and it must be maintained moving forward.

Responsibilities

  • Independently and accurately hook a patient up to EEG equipment and start the study, ensuring network access.
  • Perform neurodiagnostic testing procedures.
  • Maintain currency in the field through continued education.
  • Understand and practice appropriate emergency-response actions and ensure patient safety.
  • Maintain knowledge of and adhere to basic infection control standards.
  • Operate independently, utilize resources, and efficiently produce quality work.
  • Train new staff.
  • Keep equipment clean and in proper working order.
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems, make repairs or report issues to leadership promptly.
  • Maintain necessary supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure that work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective and efficient environment.
  • Measure, mark, and accurately apply, and remove electrodes according to the international 10-20 system.
  • Ensure that electrode impedances meet laboratory standards.
  • Write a comprehensive patient history.
  • Explain test procedure to patient and family members.
  • Independently perform routine, ICU and LTME studies on all patient populations including neonates, critical care patients, and patients with behavior difficulties.
  • Accurately enter patient information into database.
  • Navigate Epic and Natus and utilize appropriate data.
  • Document in EEG record of events.
  • Assist EEG Technologists in gathering excellent data for physician interpretation.
