About The Position

Black Box Network Services is seeking several Network Technicians with a proven track record in network device racking and stacking, cable patching, physical layer troubleshooting, equipment disposal, and installing/troubleshooting Cisco and Avaya IP phones. This role supports facilities management, site security, and project engagement, requiring a commitment to customer satisfaction and high-quality work. The ideal candidate is motivated and self-driven.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in utilizing technical tools such as Sniffers, BERT testers, cable testers, and fiber testers.
  • Experience working in communications closets.
  • Ability to perform rack and stack activities.
  • Ability to safely lift heavy objects.
  • Understanding of cable patching processes and procedures.
  • Familiarity with 66 Block and 110 Block cross-connect procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of data communications networking, including assisting in troubleshooting issues and understanding network terminology.
  • Familiarity with IP phones, including programming Cisco phones, installing Avaya phones, and troubleshooting both Avaya and Cisco phones.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to customers and interpret customer issues for resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Patch cabling between network equipment and the customer’s network.
  • Install power cables from equipment to power supply in racks/cabinets/closets.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and de-install network equipment, including swapping devices (phones, computers, cables, boards, routers, switches) and installing/troubleshooting/de-installing Network General remote Sniffers.
  • Complete hard and complex Move, Add, Change (MAC) requests within defined service levels.
  • Act as an interface between customer associates and management.
  • Provide hardware break-fix services for network infrastructure.
  • Perform onsite call-through, data, voice, website, and security testing.
  • Perform back-up testing to ensure all systems are connected to the customer’s network.
  • Support carrier testing of circuits.
  • Assist with facilities efforts, including power and UPS restoral, water problems, emergency cooling restoration, and fire suppression exercises/restoration/post-fire events.
  • Support inventory management activities such as receiving, tagging, tracking spares, ordering, updating records, and preparing/returning damaged equipment.
  • Act as an interface between associates at the applicable location and centralized project/operations/MAC management as needed.
