About The Position

Black Box Network Services, a global leader in communication system integration, is seeking several Network Technicians with a proven track record in racking and stacking network devices, cable patching, physical layer troubleshooting, equipment disposal, and installing/troubleshooting Cisco and Avaya IP phones. This role will support facilities management, site security, and project engagement, emphasizing a commitment to customer satisfaction and high-quality work. The ideal candidate will be motivated and self-driven.

Requirements

  • Proficient in utilizing technical tools such as Sniffers, BERT testers, cable testers, and fiber testers.
  • Experience working in communications closets.
  • Ability to perform rack and stack activities.
  • Ability to safely lift heavy objects.
  • Understanding of cable patching processes and procedures.
  • Familiarity with 66 Block and 110 Block cross-connect procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of data communications networking.
  • Ability to assist in troubleshooting issues.
  • Understanding of network terminology.
  • Familiarity with IP phones.
  • Ability to program Cisco phones.
  • Ability to install Avaya phones.
  • Ability to troubleshoot Avaya and Cisco phones.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to explain technical issues in a way the customer will understand.
  • Ability to interpret a customer’s issue to facilitate a resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Patching cabling between network equipment and the customer’s network.
  • Installation of power cables from equipment to power supply in rack/cabinet/closet.
  • Installation, troubleshooting, and de-installation of network equipment, including installing/swapping out devices (e.g., phones, computers, cables, boards, edge routers, switches) and installing, troubleshooting, and de-installing Network General remote Sniffers.
  • Completing hard and complex Move, Add, Change (MAC) requests within defined service levels.
  • Acting as an interface between customer’s associates and management.
  • Providing hardware break-fix services for network infrastructure.
  • Performing onsite call-through, data, voice, website, and security testing.
  • Performing back-up testing to ensure all systems are connected to the customer’s network as directed.
  • Supporting carrier testing of circuits.
  • Assisting with facilities efforts, including power and uninterruptable power supply (UPS) restoral, water problems, emergency cooling restoration, and fire suppression exercises, restoration, and post-fire events.
  • Supporting inventory management activities, including receiving inventory, tagging assets, tracking spares (crash kits), ordering inventory, updating inventory records, and preparing/returning damaged equipment.
  • Acting as an interface, as needed, between associates at the applicable location and centralized project/operations/MAC management.
