About The Position

M.C. Dean is seeking a Network Technician 4 to join their Security and Electronic Systems (SES) business unit. This role supports the US Air Force Education and Training Center (AETC) and involves designing, engineering, integrating, operating, and maintaining enterprise, campus, and Base Area Network (BAN) infrastructure. This includes work with switches, routers, HAIPE/bulk encryptors, wireless infrastructure, inside and outside plant cabling, racks/cabinets, pathways, and bonding/grounding. The position requires executing technical tasks in field operations across multiple locations, including on-site installations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs. Key duties involve site surveys, network hardware and software configuration, system testing, and customer technical support. The role demands strong problem-solving skills, technical proficiency, and effective communication. Responsibilities also include adhering to safety plans and M.C. Dean policies, proper use of PPE, analyzing drawing packages, maintaining as-built documentation, managing tools and inventory, participating in safety meetings, installing system raceway, cabling, and equipment racks, terminating and testing network equipment, installing low voltage cabling (CAT 5/6/6a, Fiber Optic), racking and stacking MDF/IDF equipment, surveying and documenting telecommunications infrastructure, and collaborating with operations teams. This position requires 24/7 on-call support.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain a DoD SECRET Clearance is REQUIRED
  • Requires a Valid driver's license.
  • Selected candidates must possess an acceptable driving record in accordance to our policy
  • HS diploma or GED is required
  • 8+ years of electronics installation and/or maintenance activities on multiple systems and with multiple customer programs
  • Strong Oral, Written and Presentation Skills.
  • Demonstrated background working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated time management and organization skills to meet deadlines and quality objectives.
  • The position requires the ability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to [50 pounds] on a regular basis.
  • Candidates must demonstrate physical strength and stamina to perform various tasks, including but not limited to, loading, and unloading, operating equipment, and assisting in the transportation of various materials.
  • Proper lifting techniques and safety protocols must be followed to ensure personal and team safety.
  • Relocate a 12 foot stepladder without assistance.
  • Work at various heights up to 60 feet and climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
  • Walk, climb, lift, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull and reach overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
  • Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate fluently in English.
  • Use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
  • Have an ability to identify problems to include potential problems such as improper installation, safety hazards, etc.
  • Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).
  • See details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken and written words and sentences.

Nice To Haves

  • Vendor certifications in multiple cabling vendors such as Commscope, Corning, etc.; Networking vendors to include Cisco, Juniper, and Palo Alto;
  • Graduation from an accredited Electronics Technician program or
  • Graduation from an Electrical Apprenticeship program
  • 3 years of the above experience must be focused in supporting large scale cabling infrastructure
  • Familiarity with DoD and/or U.S. Air Force standards for network equipment, cabling installation, bonding and grounding
  • Strong MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint Skills is a plus.
  • BICSI credentials to include Technician and/or Installer

Responsibilities

  • Execute various technical tasks and responsibilities within field operations of Base Area Networks at multiple locations.
  • Perform on-site installations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs of equipment and systems.
  • Ensure the functionality and reliability of various technologies.
  • Conduct site surveys, configure network hardware and software, test systems for proper operation, and provide technical support to customers.
  • Utilize and comprehend project Safety plan (JHA, AHA, PFW), enforcing adherence to USAF safety requirements as well as M.C. Dean handbook and policies.
  • Utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) properly.
  • Analyze and interpret complete M.C. Dean drawing packages to assess constructability, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain as-built documentation as part of implementing Moves / Adds / Changes.
  • Verify correct charges in timesheets on projects, executing installation and maintenance activities within planned durations.
  • Track and inventory tools, conduct consistent tool inspections and perform tool inventory at the end of each day for assigned tools and equipment.
  • Participate in daily Operational Risk Management (ORM) safety meetings, ensuring team compliance with safety requirements.
  • Install system raceway, cabling, equipment racks, enclosures, panels, and all mounting hardware components, ensuring proper grounding and adherence to NEC standards.
  • Terminate, test, and configure network and IT equipment to include network switches, routers, wireless access points, antennas, and bulk encryptors.
  • Install various types of Low Voltage Cable to include CAT 5/6/6a Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) and Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) as well as Single Mode and MultiMode Fiber Optic (SMFO / MMFO) cabling.
  • Rack and stack MDF head end and IDF telecom room equipment, terminate and perform cable terminations and accessories in accordance with industry standards (EIA/TIA/ANSI/NEC/etc).
  • Survey and document existing telecommunications infrastructure such as copper and fiber cables, active and passive components using electronic devices.
  • Communicate consistently with MC Dean Operations Teams, exhibiting dedication, punctuality, and preparedness for work.
  • Act as a collaborative teammate, providing and absorbing constructive feedback with both internal and external customers in a positive manner.
  • Plan and prioritize tasks effectively, understanding and embodying the M.C. Dean vision, mission, and values.
  • Survey and document existing field conditions, providing feedback and recommendations to the project team.
  • This position requires 24/7 on-call support.
