The Network Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting robust and secure Local Area and Wireless Area Networks. This role involves monitoring and managing LAN/WAN bandwidth, analyzing trends and service outages using monitoring tools, and establishing/maintaining network applications and servers on Windows and Linux platforms. The engineer will also manage client workstations, provide technical assistance, and develop network documentation. Key responsibilities include maintaining virtual desktop infrastructure, network security hardware and software (firewalls, anti-virus, intrusion detection, etc.), monitoring server and security audit logs, and maintaining essential network services like DNS, DHCP, and Domain Controller services. Automation of repetitive processes using PowerShell and other scripting languages is also a part of this role. The engineer will monitor and maintain server operating systems, ensure security patches and software updates are applied, and manage data backup and restoration, including participation in disaster recovery planning. Continuous education in networking and security trends is encouraged. This role also involves coordinating with departments for account management, maintaining network-connected audiovisual equipment, and ensuring compliance with data privacy regulations (FERPA, HIPAA).
