About The Position

The LA County Department of Human Resources (DHR) has authorized Hiring as an Emergency under Civil Service Rule 13.04 on a limited and temporary basis. This action supports a time-sensitive, Board-directed workforce initiative requiring immediate staffing action to maintain continuity of critical public services. We are looking for qualified and committed individuals to help strengthen the County workforce and ensure residents continue to receive critical support. The Child Support Services Department is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency NETWORK SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR II vacancies. Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment. During your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%. Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to NETWORK SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR II.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field AND Two (2) years of recent, full-time, paid experience in LAN design, configuration or administration.
  • One (1) year of experience at the level of Network Systems Administrator I.
  • Three (3) years of recent, full-time, paid experience in LAN design, configuration or administration.
  • A valid California Class “C” Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

Responsibilities

  • Performs network and server administration functions, including installing, configuring, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading hardware and operating systems.
  • Gathers and analyzes requirements to assist in the design of the security implementation, including the design of roles and groups.
  • Creates and manages user accounts, roles, and groups; assigns privileges, and administers the network security system.
  • Troubleshoots, researches, diagnoses and resolves hardware, software and network systems problems; makes adjustments, installs patches and performs tuning; escalates network problems as necessary.
  • Monitors network performance; provides on-site support, and reports problems according to established procedures.
  • Performs network backup and restores operations following established procedures.
  • Provides input to the design and implementation of network configurations to ensure infrastructure compatibility, optimal utilization and adherence to established information security procedures.
  • Participates in the VLAN configuration process to support the installation and maintenance of services over Internet Protocol (IP), such as audio, video and data.
  • Develops and maintains accurate and up-to-date network documentation, logs, and files.
  • May design and maintain network architecture, including hubs, routers, and physical network.
  • May conduct and/or lead analysis in support of data center planning.
  • May install and maintain anti-virus software and issue warnings to end-users.
  • May set up and execute automated software distributions.
  • May develop and recommend procedures for network resource allocation.
  • May document information security processes and procedures.
