About The Position

Incumbents are responsible for supporting the operation and maintenance of the RIDE LAN and network infrastructure; supporting user access to the RIDE LAN, RINET e-mail server, and Internet. We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Network Systems Administrator to join our team and help maintain the performance, security, and reliability of our network infrastructure. In this role, you will support day-to-day operations of our LAN and enterprise systems, manage user access, monitor and troubleshoot network issues, and ensure data integrity through regular backups and security best practices. You will also configure and maintain servers, firewalls, and email systems, provide advanced technical support, and collaborate with staff to resolve complex system challenges. The ideal candidate brings strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking, server and database administration, and information systems design, along with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Requirements

  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of three-tier client/server systems.
  • Knowledge of relational database theory.
  • Knowledge of anti-virus applications, TCP/IP protocols, and HTML programming language.
  • Knowledge of information systems and processing planning, design, and development principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of applicable operating systems and software applications.
  • Knowledge of applicable servers and databases.
  • Skilled in interpreting a variety of furnished documents in written, oral, and graphical formats.
  • Skilled in presenting information and responding to questions.
  • Skilled in solving problems and dealing with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization and documentation exists.
  • Skilled in planning, designing, and developing information systems.
  • Skilled in maintaining and administering applicable servers, databases, applications, and Internet applications.
  • Skilled in communicating and interpersonal exchanges as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science.
  • Five years of computer support experience and/or any combination of knowledge, skills and experience that is substantially equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Performs daily data backups of vital Department data for ease of recovery in the event of user error or disaster.
  • Ensures all network computer systems are protected from future computer virus activities.
  • Updates firewall configurations to meet current access and security requirements.
  • Provides access to RIDE LAN resources for new users.
  • Provides limited desktop support to RIDE users in the absence of primary desktop support staff.
  • Advises desktop support staff on advanced technical issues, theory, and best practices.
  • Performs occasional maintenance to content of RIDE public website; troubleshoots issues regarding access to RIDE public website.
  • Researches and advises management regarding software and hardware purchases to support network enhancements.
  • Maintains user access to network printers.
  • Coordinates requests for quotes from vendors on software and hardware.
  • Monitors and troubleshoots network access issues.
  • Manages RIDE e-mail accounts and address connectivity issues.
  • Implements, configures, and maintains RIDE trouble call/help desk Intranet application.
  • Coordinates the replacement of batteries in Uninterruptible Power Supplies to support network hardware.
  • Installs new servers and configures for network access.
  • Documents network hardware and software inventory.
  • Documents and monitors utilization of available internal and external IP addresses.
  • Provides advice and direction to colleagues using Microsoft Access applications.
  • Monitors the operation and backup of RIDE Oracle development and production database installations.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
