Network Solution Engineer

FieldAIIrvine, CA
Onsite

About The Position

FieldAI's Irvine team is focused on embodied AI, real robots, sensors, and field deployments. We develop risk-aware, reliable, and field-ready AI systems to tackle complex robotics challenges and unlock the potential of embodied intelligence. This role is crucial for maintaining the network backbone that ensures our robots remain online, mission-ready, and connected, covering Wi-Fi, cellular, routers, and customer private networks. The Network Solution Engineer will be responsible for bringing up field routers, troubleshooting connectivity issues on-site, and collaborating with customer IT departments to integrate robots into their networks. This position operates at the intersection of networking, field operations, and customer enablement, involving triaging issues across multiple layers, developing monitoring tools for fleet connectivity, and creating playbooks and product feedback based on field learnings to streamline future deployments.

Requirements

  • Strong networking fundamentals, including Wi-Fi (bands, channels, DFS, roaming), cellular (LTE/5G, APN, SIM provisioning), routers and access points, and subnets/VLANs, DHCP, DNS, NAT, and MAC addressing/allowlisting.
  • Practical understanding of Wi-Fi coverage, including the ability to identify dead zones and interference, and knowledge of how access-point placement, channels, and antennas impact coverage and roaming.
  • 2-3 years of experience in field deployment, systems integration, network operations, or IT/NOC.
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills across software, hardware, and networking layers, with the ability to accurately identify the root cause layer.
  • Comfort working in Linux environments and using the terminal/SSH.
  • Clear communication skills for interacting with customers and IT in high-stakes situations and translating technical issues for non-technical audiences.
  • Self-starter mentality, comfortable in ambiguous and rapidly changing field environments.
  • Willingness to travel and work on-site with customers as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Field robotics experience.
  • Scripting skills (Python/Bash) for automation and tooling extension.
  • Experience reading network and fleet telemetry (dashboards and logs) to diagnose issues.
  • A track record of deploying, operating, or maintaining mission-critical systems in real-world environments.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end connectivity for deployments, including Wi-Fi, cellular, routers, and customer private networks.
  • Bring up, configure, test, and recover field routers to ensure robots are online and mission-ready.
  • Partner with customer site IT on access-point placement and coverage, identifying and addressing dead zones, interference, and weak spots.
  • Resolve field connectivity failures such as poor coverage, weak cellular signals, SIM issues, access-point and backhaul problems, and roaming issues.
  • Quickly root-cause field issues across software, hardware, and networking layers using connectivity telemetry.
  • Stand up and operate monitoring and diagnostics to track fleet connectivity health.
  • Gather and analyze field feedback to drive recurring fixes and automation into tooling.
  • Facilitate the integration of robots onto customer private networks by managing MAC addresses and coordinating with customer IT.
  • Communicate connectivity status clearly to operators, site teams, and customer IT.
  • Act as a trusted connectivity point of contact to accelerate deployment and maintain site operations.
  • Represent the field's connectivity needs to engineering and product teams.
  • Collaborate with software, hardware, and platform teams to ensure robot connectivity.
  • Build scalable connectivity playbooks and runbooks for future rollouts.

Benefits

  • Generous salary range considered based on individual background and experience.
  • Potential for base pay variation based on role scope, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market.
