You’ll be an integral part of our Network Operations team, helping to ensure the reliable delivery of ORBCOMM’s IoT solutions to our global customer base. You’ll gain exposure to a wide range of technologies—including satellite systems, RF performance, and network infrastructure—while contributing to mission-critical projects. With a flexible hybrid work schedule with a minimum of (3 days on-site per week, you can enjoy the best of both worlds—engaging in-person collaboration at our Ottawa office, while also benefiting from the autonomy and comfort of remote work. As part of a rotating team, 24/7 on-call availability is required one week per month.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience in networking, RF systems, or IoT-based technical operations.
  • A diploma or degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Systems, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with RF testing tools like spectrum analyzers and signal generators.
  • Practical experience using Linux shell commands.
  • Familiarity with IP networking fundamentals and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Experience working with MySQL (MariaDB) databases and writing SQL queries.
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to work both independently and cross-functionally.
  • Strong communication skills and a methodical, analytical approach to problem-solving.
  • A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel up to 10% as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and optimize satellite beam performance for IoT services using tools like Grafana, NMS, and proprietary platforms.
  • Provide second-line support as part of a 24/7 rotating on-call team, ensuring rapid response to service issues.
  • Remotely manage and maintain global ground station equipment, with occasional travel for onsite support.
  • Perform RF signal testing and diagnostics across L-Band, C-Band, and IF using spectrum analyzers and related tools.
  • Install and configure RF hardware including converters, GPS antennas, RF cabling, and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components.
  • Diagnose and resolve basic network connectivity issues involving switches, routers, and serial devices.
  • Set up and configure Linux-based production servers, deploying applications in collaboration with engineering teams.
  • Execute MySQL (MariaDB) queries and coordinate with third-party database support teams.
  • Monitor a large fleet of satellite terminals, tracking key performance metrics such as latency, carrier-to-noise ratio (C/No), and availability.
  • Oversee the satellite monitoring lab in Carp, Ontario, including terminal setup, cable assembly, and IP configuration.
  • Assist engineering and lab teams with RF installations and test setups.
  • Design, implement, and maintain RF distribution systems within the Kanata office.
  • Fabricate custom power and interface cables to support specialized equipment connectivity.
