Network Operations Engineer (NetOps)

Northramp LLCWashington, DC
Onsite

About The Position

Northramp is seeking a Network Operations Engineer (NetOps) to join the team supporting the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) Enterprise IT Operations Services Support (ITOPS) program. ITOPS is a five-year effort to operate and modernize DFC's enterprise IT environment, providing service management, network operations, IT asset management, and end-user support across DFC's mission. You will provide hands-on network operations support across DFC's enterprise environment, working as part of the NetOps team to monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain network services across DFC HQ and the DFC NYC service desk site. The role is for an engineer who likes to operate — configure switches, investigate incidents, work through tickets, and own their corner of the network. This role is part of Northramp's integrated delivery model, where engineers and advisors work as one team to bring sound judgment, disciplined execution, and deep federal experience to mission-critical operations programs.

Requirements

  • 3–6 years of progressive, hands-on experience in network operations and engineering in enterprise environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field. Equivalent professional experience considered.
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco, Palo Alto, Juniper, or equivalent enterprise networking infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge across the following: IPv4 and IPv6 configuration, migration, and troubleshooting
  • Routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP) and switching technologies (VLANs, STP, VTP)
  • Network security technologies (VPNs, ACLs, IPsec, SSL/TLS, NGFW), including firewall rules, NAC (802.1X), and STIG compliance
  • Wireless networking and DNS
  • Cloud networking in AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Network automation and scripting using Python, Bash, PowerShell, Ansible, or Terraform
  • Familiarity with network monitoring and SIEM platforms — SolarWinds, PRTG, Zabbix, Splunk, or comparable.
  • Strong background using packet analysis tools (e.g., Wireshark) to diagnose complex LAN/MAN/WAN issues.
  • Basic network-incident response experience.
  • Proven ability to activate, back up, deactivate, and restart network resources and services with minimal downtime.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills; methodical approach to issue resolution.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including the ability to produce network diagrams in Visio or Lucidchart.
  • U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Cisco CCNA (CCNP a plus).
  • CompTIA Network+ and Security+.
  • Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Administrator (PCNSA).
  • Familiarity with NIST 800-207 (Zero Trust Architecture).
  • Prior federal civilian or defense network operations experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day operational support for DFC's enterprise network across HQ and the DFC NYC service desk site, including monitoring, alerting, and incident triage.
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise network infrastructure — routers, switches, firewalls, wireless controllers, VPN concentrators — under change management.
  • Investigate and resolve network incidents per defined SLAs; escalate appropriately and document resolution.
  • Support implementation of Zero Trust controls under the direction of senior architects — including NAC enforcement, micro-segmentation policies, and identity-based access.
  • Perform configuration changes through DFC's change management process; participate in Change Control Board (CCB) reviews where required.
  • Support vulnerability scanning, STIG hardening, and configuration compliance on network devices.
  • Maintain network documentation, diagrams, and runbooks.
  • Participate in on-call rotation outside core business hours for incident response.
  • Coordinate with the service desk team to support end-user connectivity issues.
  • Provide periodic on-site support at the DFC NYC location as needed.
