About The Position

The Network Infrastructure Patch Management Analyst will be responsible for coordinating and tracking network device firmware/software patching activities. This role involves executing pre-patch and post-patch tasks, monitoring device health, logging activities, and maintaining an inventory of network device firmware. The analyst will also communicate maintenance windows to stakeholders and escalate any issues that arise during the patching process. Additionally, the role contributes to generating patch compliance reports.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of networking fundamentals including OSI model, IP addressing, VLANs, and routing basics.
  • Familiarity with Cisco IOS CLI commands such as show version, copy commands, and reload.
  • Awareness of device backup processes including TFTP/SCP configuration backups.
  • Basic knowledge of network management systems such as SolarWinds, CiscoWorks, or similar.
  • Ability to follow detailed step-by-step patching runbooks.
  • Understanding of ITSM change management and maintenance window concepts.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for co-ordinating maintenance windows.
  • Comfortable working in shift and on-call environments including nights and weekends.
  • Accurate and methodical approach to following change procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Co-ordinate and track network device firmware/software patching activities for Cisco IOS/IOS-XE, Juniper JunOS, Aruba, and Palo Alto as per approved change records.
  • Perform pre-patch tasks including verifying device backups, confirming maintenance window communications, and validating access.
  • Execute standard patching steps such as image upload, verifying MD5/SHA hash, and scheduling reloads under supervision.
  • Monitor device health post-patching by verifying interface states, routing tables, and connectivity.
  • Log patch activity and outcomes in ITSM tickets using ServiceNow or Remedy.
  • Maintain network device firmware inventory and flag devices with outdated or end-of-support software.
  • Communicate maintenance windows to impacted stakeholders and NOC teams.
  • Escalate unexpected device failures, routing disruptions, or patching errors immediately.
  • Assist in generating weekly patch compliance reports for the network estate.
