About The Position

Under general/immediate supervision, performs work of routine or complex difficulty installing, and maintaining computer networks, operating software, communication systems, and performs other duties as assigned. Responsible for designing, upgrading, troubleshooting and maintaining citywide network systems and connectivity to other, Local, State, and Federal government and agencies systems. Facilitates the development of public trust and confidence in the City. This position is considered an "Essential Position" for the purpose of Emergency Management. Emergency duties will be assigned as needed. This position requires 24 hours a day, 7 days per week availability during City of Port St Lucie emergencies, as determined by City Administrators, Emergency Manager or City Officials.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required.
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or closely related field required.
• Three (3) years of experience in network administration which included the maintenance of LANs, WANS, VLANs, QOS, DNS, DHCP, Firewalls, core switching and routing, Cisco IOS, Cisco catalyst OS, RAS, VOIP; or an equivalent combination of closely related training and work experience required.
• Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certificate is required or the ability to obtain the certification within six (6) months from date of hire.
• Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Clearance required to be obtained within three (3) months from date of hire to allow unescorted access.
• Possession of valid driver’s license and maintenance of clean driving record required with the ability to obtain a valid Florida driver’s license within 30 days from date of hire.
• Considerable knowledge of client hardware, software, and associated peripherals.
• Considerable knowledge of voice and data technologies and solution sets.
• Familiar with Wireshark Network Analyzer.
• Skill in safe use of tools, communications equipment, and testing equipment.
• Ability to follow standard practices and testing procedures for network installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
• Ability to comprehend architectural structure of buildings and facilities.
• Ability to interpret and work from technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
• Ability to work effectively with co-workers.
• Network Fundamentals: OSI/TCP/IP models, IP addressing (IPv4/IPv6), subnetting, VLANs, TCP/UDP.
• Routing & Switching: Router/switch configuration, static/dynamic routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, RIP), Spanning Tree.
• Network Security: Access Control Lists (ACLs), VPNs, firewall basics, port security.
• Wireless: Wireless LANs (WLANs), WPA/WPA2, SSIDs, troubleshooting Wi-Fi.
• Network Access: DHCP, DNS, Ethernet, port security.
• Problem-Solving & Critical Thinking: Analyzing complex network issues from multiple angles.
• Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to non-technical people.
• Ability to maintain system documentation related to local support functions.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
• Working knowledge in the use of Viso, Office 365 apps, PRTG, ISE, Kiwi, Putty, Cisco IOS, Meraki, FMC, and Cisco Cataylst Center are essential.

Responsibilities

• Keeps the mission, vision and values of the City of Port St. Lucie and the Information Technology Department at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintaining high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
• Researches and evaluates network hardware and software such as routers, bridges and firewalls.
• Participates in the installation, configuration, and integration of network hardware, software, communication and connectivity devices in accordance with established procedures and security needs.
• Uses specialized diagnostic tools to maintain, and repair computers, workstations, peripheral equipment and devices including computers operating software.
• Repairs or replaces defective equipment and installs new equipment in network systems; cleans and adjusts equipment and coordinates the maintenance and modification of systems by initiating service calls to vendors and monitoring their work.
• Assists in the research for City acquisition of network technologies.
• Assists in evaluating maintenance agreements and services appropriate to maintain availability and function of City systems and networks according to established service-level agreements.
• Assists in the creation and modification of computer system and/or network configurations to accommodate local and remote attached peripheral devices.
• Documents and maintains procedures, including instruction and operational interfaces, to backup data resident on multi-user computer systems and servers.
• Provides on-call support for wireless infrastructure and technical needs.

Benefits

• The hourly rate of pay is also indicative of the position start rate for the new fiscal year.
• The starting hourly rate for this position is $36.30 - $41.74 depending on qualifications.
