About The Position

As a Network Implementation Engineer in Network Delivery Implementation, you will be an initial point of execution for deployment, maintenance, and operations of private data networks worldwide. You will work with Technical Program Managers, Network Engineers, Design and Infrastructure Engineers, Field Engineers, and construction and telecommunications vendors and contractors to support successful network delivery. The role focuses on enabling reliable, cost-effective, and scalable network infrastructure for current and future customers and users globally. Google's Network Team operates its network reliably and at scale. The team owns the full life cycle of space, power, and network assets in Google data centers and metro points of presence worldwide, from site acquisition and construction through architecture, design, installation, configuration, activation, and commissioning. The role requires more than 50% travel during peak project build cycles. Individual pay is determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering, Telecom Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Three years of experience in DWDM or TCP/IP or system design operations methodology.
Three years of experience in carrier-class environments, including Layer 1 physical infrastructure (DWDM, AC/DC power, OSP/ISP) and Layer 2/3 networking (TCP/IP, routing).
Experience working with field operation technicians, engineers, contractors, or vendors in a telecommunications environment.

Nice To Haves

Experience in one or more of the following disciplines: Layer 1 optical transmission systems, Layer 3 routing TCP/IP, wireless networking, network design, or operations.
Experience interpreting and validating deployment packages, including orders and construction specifications, to verify design accuracy and escalating discrepancies to engineering partners before installation.
Experience identifying recurring errors in deployment packages or specifications and driving feedback loops to improve design accuracy and operational efficiency.
Familiarity with network automation tools, scripting, or SQL to query databases and track deployment consistency.
Basic Linux experience, such as running commands and moving directories.

Responsibilities

Oversee and conduct quality assurance for installation technicians during rack, stack, and installation of networking equipment.
Commission and test routers, optical transport equipment, and other network devices in new and existing network nodes across Google's global network.
Generate implementation plans and provide technical leadership and guidance during deployment activities.
Work with project management, network engineering, and the broader engineering team to identify potential problems in network installations in advance, including facility power (AC/DC), cooling, security/access, rack layout, and cable management.
Own network documentation, updating and maintaining network drawings and plans.
