About The Position

Our customer, the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), provides, operates, and assures command and control of the Defense Information System Network (DISN) services to its customers, the department of Defense (DoD) and national security organizations. This position directly supports the DISA-provided capabilities and services. The Leidos Digital Modernization Sector/Global Solutions Management-Operations II (GSMO-II) contract has an opening for an Network Impact Assessment (NIA) Technician at Scott AFB, IL. As a Network Impact Assessment (NIA) Technician on the Global Solutions Management – Operations II (GSM-O II) contract, you will serve as a crucial link between network engineering and mission operations. Your primary role is to act as the operational safeguard for the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA). Before a scheduled maintenance window occurs, or when an unexpected network event strikes the Defense Information Systems Network (DISN), you will evaluate the complex network topology to determine exactly which military missions, circuits, and customers will be impacted. You will translate complex network data into clear, actionable assessments for Government leadership, ensuring that the DoD is never blindsided by an outage. This position requires U.S. citizenship and an active Secret clearance.

Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to work 100% on-site at Scott AFB, IL (No remote work possible).
  • High School diploma and 1–3 years of prior experience in an IT Operations Center (ITOC), Network Operations Center (NOC), or telecommunications environment.
  • A current and active DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (Security+ CE) is required before your start date.
  • A current and active DoD Secret security clearance is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to trace network paths and understand the critical relationship between physical hardware and logical circuits.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate technical findings into professional reports for Government oversight.

Nice To Haves

  • Practical experience navigating and querying ITSM records within ServiceNow and dashboarding capabilities.
  • A practical understanding of the OSI model, IP routing, Optical networking, and/or ATM switching.
  • Prior experience interpreting data or navigating interfaces for Cisco, Juniper, Ciena, or Promina network devices.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes or working within a team-focused, fast-paced operational environment.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant IT or Engineering discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate Authorized Service Interruptions (ASIs) and unplanned network events by analyzing circuit paths and network topologies to determine the precise impact on customer missions.
  • Utilize network management and monitoring tools to assess and communicate real-time or forecasted mission impacts resulting from maintenance, unplanned outages, severe weather, or real-world events.
  • Provide high-speed, high-accuracy impact assessments during emergency network outages (e.g., cut fiber, hardware failure) to support executive-level reporting and situational awareness.
  • Ensure all impact findings and assessments are accurately logged, tracked, and updated across enterprise management systems, utilizing both ServiceNow and legacy toolsets.
