About The Position

Koniag IT Systems LLC, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a Network Engineer to support KITS and our government customer in Washington, DC. This is a hybrid opportunity that requires 3 days onsite and 2 days remote. We are looking for a highly qualified, experienced, and self-motivated individual to perform the duties of a Network Engineer to support a potential future business opportunity located in Washington, DC. The ideal Network Engineer will support the organization’s networking infrastructure, equipment, software, and design. This role focuses on maintaining, configuring, and troubleshooting network components, ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of all network systems. The ideal candidate will be skilled in network documentation, configuration management, and process improvement, with experience supporting enterprise-scale network environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience supporting and maintaining enterprise networks.
  • Proficiency with Layer 2/3 networking, VLANs, VPNs, routing protocols, and subnetting.
  • Experience with enterprise switches, routers, and firewalls.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Understanding of network documentation and configuration management.
  • Familiarity with multicast technologies and network monitoring tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Cisco, Juniper, or similar vendor certifications (e.g., CCNA, CompTIA Network+).
  • Experience implementing network automation or scripting.
  • Working knowledge of cloud networking or SD-WAN technologies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, configure, and troubleshoot switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless systems.
  • Document all switching and routing equipment, IP-addressable devices, and cabling interconnects.
  • Perform day-to-day network maintenance, installation, and configuration activities.
  • Review and analyze existing network processes, recommending improvements where needed.
  • Implement approved process improvements and maintain related documentation.
  • Monitor and analyze network performance, recommending and applying optimization measures.
  • Support disaster recovery planning and testing for network infrastructure.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining network security and firewall configurations.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control checks on network systems.
  • Stay informed of emerging networking technologies and standards.
  • Provide data and documentation to support internal and external audits.
