Network Engineer

Andromeda Cluster•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

Andromeda’s infrastructure team designs, deploys, and operates large-scale GPU clusters for AI labs and compute providers. The Network Engineer designs and brings up the networks in these GPU clusters, including the compute fabric, storage network, front-end, and out-of-band management. The role works with the Cluster Architect on network design and with deployment engineers on site through validation, and reports to the Head of Infrastructure. The engineer owns network design and capacity planning, cabling and optics plans, fabric bring-up and validation, troubleshooting, and automation. The work covers InfiniBand and Spectrum-X Ethernet compute fabrics, storage and front-end networks, and infrastructure deployment and operations across sites and customers.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience designing and bringing up InfiniBand or RoCE fabrics for clusters of 1,000 or more GPUs.
  • Experience with NVIDIA UFM and switch operating systems such as Cumulus or SONiC.
  • Practical knowledge of optics, transceivers, and high-density cabling.
  • Experience using Python and Ansible or similar tools for configuration and validation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with GB200 or GB300 NVL72 rack-scale systems.
  • Experience designing data center interconnect and cloud interconnect.
  • Experience working directly with customer ML infrastructure teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design and bring up compute fabrics, including InfiniBand (NDR, XDR) and Spectrum-X Ethernet fabrics, rail-optimized topologies, and NVLink domain integration.
  • Design and plan capacity for storage traffic, tenant access, and internet and cloud interconnect networks.
  • Create cabling plans, optics bills of materials, and labeling standards for integrators.
  • Bring up fabrics, conduct NCCL and fabric performance testing, and sign off on acceptance.
  • Troubleshoot and serve as an escalation point for fabric issues during deployment and Day 2 operations.
  • Develop configuration templates and tooling so each build starts from a known-good baseline.
  • Work with the Cluster Architect on design and deployment engineers on site through validation.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive benefits for employees and their dependents, including healthcare, dental, and vision coverage.
