About The Position

The Squires Group is seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer to architect and manage secure, high‑availability network infrastructure across hybrid cloud and on‑premises environments within a government‑focused enterprise setting. This position requires prior experience supporting U.S. Government, Department of Defense, federal programs, or U.S. Military environments. Work is primarily remote, with occasional onsite support required at a secured office location. Preference is given to candidates near Fairfax, VA, with consideration for those in Aberdeen, MD, Titusville, FL, Newport News, VA, or Carthage, NC. Per contract requirements, candidates must be U.S. Citizens and eligible for a Secret Security Clearance. Preference is given to candidates who currently hold an active Secret Clearance.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of enterprise network engineering experience
  • Strong knowledge of routing, switching, and network security protocols
  • Hands‑on experience with Azure networking and enterprise firewalls (Fortinet, Cisco, Palo Alto)
  • Experience with FortiGate SD‑WAN and Cisco ISE
  • Proven troubleshooting skills in complex, secure environments
  • Per contract requirements, candidates must be U.S. Citizens and eligible for a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Preference is given to candidates who currently hold an active Secret Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Experience with Cisco enterprise hardware and network automation tools
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, SD‑WAN platforms, and network monitoring tools
  • Certifications such as CCNA/CCNP, Azure, or Fortinet NSE

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and manage enterprise network architecture across hybrid cloud environments
  • Support Azure networking (VNets, VPN/ExpressRoute, NSGs) and enterprise routing/switching
  • Deploy and manage Fortinet security platforms and Cisco networking equipment
  • Implement SD‑WAN, network segmentation, QoS, and performance monitoring
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams and provide escalation support for complex issues
  • Apply Zero Trust, NAC, firewall, and intrusion prevention strategies
  • Support security assessments, automation initiatives, and compliance requirements
