About The Position

This position is responsible for installing and maintaining communications equipment and wiring in county offices and the home office. The role involves maintaining the highest level of network security, troubleshooting wired and wireless connectivity issues, and monitoring network performance. The Network Engineer I will also develop and maintain disaster recovery procedures, research and implement network upgrades, and contribute to IT security within their functional area. Additionally, the role requires developing and maintaining positive relationships with ISP vendors, keeping management informed of technical issues, and being available for 24/7 on-call rotation. Some travel, including occasional overnight trips, may be required. The ideal candidate will possess superb communication and interpersonal skills, a positive customer-focused attitude, and the ability to solve complex technical problems. They must be able to analyze procedures, research IT industry trends, and understand when to seek assistance. The ability to manage multiple projects independently and work within a team is essential, along with a strong understanding of business ethics, the importance of following procedures, and a commitment to continuous learning. A self-motivated individual who constantly evaluates the environment for improvement is desired.

Requirements

  • Associate (2-year) degree, or 2-4 years combined work experience in information technology field: preferably in network field.
  • Knowledge of Core Networking functions (Routing, Switching, OSI Model).
  • Must have and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
  • Must be able to solve highly complex technical problems.
  • Must know how to read, analyze and interpret procedures, instructions and technical documents.
  • Must know how to research and analyze trends in the IT industry.
  • Must be able to solve problems and understand when it is necessary to seek assistance in the performance of work.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications: Net+, CCNA (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain communications equipment and wiring in county offices and in the home office.
  • Maintain the highest level of network security allowed for according to business model.
  • Troubleshoot wired and wireless connectivity issues for county, home office users, and on some occasions, VPN users.
  • Monitor network performance and make adjustments as deemed necessary.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation on current network practices and equipment.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate Disaster Recovery procedures for remote sites and documentation.
  • Develop working knowledge of Security policies and practices as it relates to networking equipment.
  • Research, plan and implement upgrades to network and network infrastructure as needed.
  • Position has responsibility for a component of IT security for their functional area.
  • Develop and maintain a positive relationship with Internet Service Provider vendors and company personnel.
  • Keep management and team members informed of technical issues that arise.
  • Be available for 24/7 on-call rotation.
  • Manage multiple projects and activities independently as well as work in a team environment.
  • Follow sound business ethics when executing job responsibilities.
  • Understand the importance of procedures and the need to follow them.
  • Understand the importance of learning is never-ending.
  • Be a self-motivated individual, willing to constantly evaluate the environment for improvement.
